i think u have a good idea but i have notice everybody has a different name for the same color, some call a splash,a grizzle and so on.guys that have different breeds have a better idea of the correct color because they have a standard of color for that breed and a roller its not about color its about the roll!!! that is why there is so much names for the same color,it really doesn't matter, there is no color standard for rollers.i think JMO

THISROLL, I think the bird you posted looks more like a nice example of an Ash Red Check self which a dominant color rather than a Recessive Red. Joe Beach

No need Joe, look above, check out the type, feather, station, head, and most importanlty the mental strength to handle the roll, that is what first class stock looks like and what mutts and over cooked birds lack.

Actually Joe I'm not that hot on the first three, could be the pics though. But yea it is obvious that these birds have the potential where most others posted on this site don't. Pat, no there is much more important imforation to be got here than what you wrote above, there is much to be learned for new flyers from the birds above, and color has nothing to do with it. ---------- Just my Opinion Scott

Sal, I like the first one better than the next two, the only reason that I bunched it in is because it showing slightly the look of a weak back, but could also be the pic and the way it is standing. The expression on that bird isn't real strong either,at least from the pic. but not problem wise weak either, the others have a strong expression that should have them handling "hard" roll well as long as the motor is there.

I think Scott has the "eye" of looking at birds. Some people has the ability to see good birds where we have no clue of what they are talking about. I don't know whether it come from experience or just a "gift."

Scott, Just pulling your leg a little because I know that color is not your thing. I agree with you that performance in the air is the only true test, if they don't have it there, then make em 2 inches shorter. Not sure how you can tell much from a picture tho. Give me a call some time 913-727-2418, I've got a couple of questions for you. Highest regards, Joe Beach

SCOTT, I am sure you are a credit to the sport, seriously, your post made me feel like some of us post junk, sorry if I came off to strong but I feel color such as hard and soft do play a rule in performance in certain lines, also for the newbie, a description of the color of the bird is a contributing factor! keep our chins up, I would like to see a couple of your birds though!! Joe, a picture is just that a picture,a quick snap shot, pictures can also be misleading but a good picture can tell the tale to a fair degee. The only thing that you can tell from any bird is whether it has "potential" or not. When I'm looking at a bird I am as much interested in the mental strength as I am in the physical traits of the bird. Without mental strength these birds can't handle what we ask them to do,we must study every aspect of our birds, from the best to the culls. Guys I am a mere flyer, nothing else other than performance charactoristics plays into my little pigeon world, and even at that I sctratch for truely good birds. I can't even imagine handicapping myself by letting non performace setbacks play into my breeding practices, but that is just me,enjoy. Scott ---------- Just my Opinion Scott
