Nick, It makes no difference. Though I've found that birds WITH beaks always make the best rollers. Ha Ha! By the way, which birds are working the best for you, Hatcher or Norwood?

no differance,

Anonymous, Hatcher wrote a book but he also had some good birds and some bad birds just like every other family. Don Oulette won the world cup and you know what, Hatcher birds helped create his family. Monty liked Hatcher birds too. Ever hear of 266, 8409, 92 ? Monty was working with these for years, they are that good! You probably got some good birds from Hatcher and screwed them up with poor management and now want to blame him.

What family do you recommend?

I didn't say the Hatcher birds were bad.......I am saying that my Norwoods are doing better right now. I am going to keep my Hatchers...............I got some Cherry Bombs, but the Norwoods are better...............right now.

Maybe I didn't screw up the Norwoods, huh?

Hatcher was nothing more than a feather merchant and thats a fact,as for Don Oullett, yea one of the birds on his Plona line came from Hatcher bred out of birds from Plona,in other words the bird just passed through his hands,Don picked him up from Chan Grover, his band number was 4468,as for Nieble and 266 and 8409 these birds came from Clint Hollingsworth which came out of Plona pairs and I had a cock here bred by Nieble crossed onto his birds out of these birds, are they Hatchers work? no,they are Plonas,Hatcher also made up false Peds on the wrong birds and used counterfiet bands for his sales in short the guy was a crook, did anyone ever see him fly ???? when was the last time anyone see Dick Stephens fly ? another crook who was tied in with Hatcher, all these type of guys do and did is prey on the unsuspecting and use pretty peds (and in many cases false) as a sales tool, did either of these guys have good birds pass through thier hands, yea in the beginning, but the fact is thats all they did was pass through and after generations just gave them something to write on a ped so that they could sell birds, these guys arent fliers or pigeon men they are and were salesmen and nothing else.

Would Norm Reed be considered a feather merchant? He was a WC competitor but also sold tons of birds.

thats a good question, yes he would and he is,how does he get away with it,he breeds hot and only flys young bird teams thats how,in other words lots of roll but also a lot of unstability, these are a completly differant type of bird then lets say Dick Stephens where roll is very hard to come by and after who knows how many generations of not being flown out I think that they degressed,if I had my choice I would go with the Reed birds then breed for stability,

I have some Hatcher birds and like them because I get early, hard roll. On the downside some of the cocks can be too big and some birds are culled for being too frequent and hanging too far behind the rest of the kit (mostly the grizles). I have also heard that he turned into a feather merchant and is looked down upon by many in the hobby for doing so. However,I'm satisfied with the ones I got.
