Today I spoke with a new customer who purchased a pair of young birds that he intends to lock down until they are old enough for breeding. Using some fosters, he plans to raise several rounds so he can get a kit started with several of his own Ruby young birds. He wants to compete and is very excited about his future in rollers. I wish him the best.
But the reason for this post is something he said to me really shocked me…about how some well-known guy really puts the squeeze on the unsuspecting newbies saying something like this (paraphrasing): “if you are really serious about raising rollers, money shouldn’t even be an issue…” , or is asked, (again paraphrasing): “…how much money you got…” then proceeding to charge for birds accordingly.
I just want to say that guys can charge whatever they like for their work and efforts (I know I do), but I think it makes a guy more credible to advertise his prices before a guy walks in knowing how much he is going to spend on individual birds, otherwise he walks in a situation and gets pressured for “not being serious” about rollers and drops a wad of cash.
Paying hundreds of dollars for a young bird due to slick talking? I don't know. If you are new to rollers, and don’t want to get taken for hundreds of dollars on a couple birds, do yourself a favor and buy a quality family and buy from my site. All birds put up for sale go a modest but fair price. Good Luck.
