Sorry i dont know the correct spelling for the word linolium, but Big Al told me that he was on a fly recently and noticed that one of the guys, had linolium tile on the floor of his loft. When asked why, he said that all he has to do is sweep it and it is real easy to clean. What do the rest of you think about this. Any negative thoughts?? Richard

Richard, With that type of floor covering you have to watch one thing. Squeekers on the floor and then becoming spraddle legged. Because if it is wet it is very slippery. And would this type of floor allow the dropping to dry fast enough? Just a thought, Brian

I'm not so sure linoleum on the floor of the actual loft would be such a good idea. As Brian mentioned, there would probably be some issues with dryness. Bedding would be interesting. Ever step on some small round object on the kitchen floor? I can remember more than one time of nearly falling on my ass from the slipping..LOL. I did see the walking part of a loft in linoleum once. Rayvon Hall has a nice loft set up with the aisles lined with linoleum. Surely is easy to clean and if you were to spill any water it would clean up pretty good. Just watch your step with any spilled feed on the floor..LOL. Brian.

-----Hi everybody, Since I breed in individual cages the babies never see the floor. Once I see them eating on thier own in the cage with thier parents at weaning time, I put them in a kit box I sort of use as a weaning cage outside. I put the squeakers there and monitor thier progress. If they appear a little light I'll put then back with the parents for a day or so. Typically they do fine without that. I like the idea of the ease of cleaning as well as the look.----- Big Al "High Plains Spinner Loft"

Many Years ago Tim Greer gave me some paneling from the inside of a Simi Truck trailer, it was plywood with a 1/8 inch plastic molded to it, it made a great floor easy to clean, I wish I had a bunch more of it, it even made great roofing as it was waterproof.

It holds to much moisture on the floor and stays damp, I put it tile tile form in one of my first lofts, what a pain in the butt it became after one came loose. it wouldn't stay dry in the winter even it would sweat from the heat of the birds

Hey Guys, Linoleum has hygenic properties due to the oxidation of the linseed oil infused during the manufacturing process. The surface of the material is made unsuitable for bacteria growth. Studies have shown that the growth of Staphylococcus Aureus,Bacillus Cereus and Pseudomanas Pyocyanea is inhibited. Heat welding the floor to the wood underlayment helps to provide a seamless, water resistant barrier. Linoleum is also non-toxic in that heat due to fire will not make the ingredients generate toxic fumes. Linoleum is anti-static & resistant to chemicals and probably won't break down from exposure to pigeon droppings. The composition is linseed oil, pine resin, wood flour and cork grain mixed with inorganic fillers such as clay and chalk all calendered onto a jute backing. Oh, and it's fully bio-degradable. Hey Brian, maybe Rayvon is onto something-just seems a little high end though. Must look good! Otis

I like my wood floor in the breeding areas of my lofts. BUT, I do have linoleum in " my " section of the loft. This is where I keep the feed, do all my banding, enter numbers and info in "the book", and sometimes just hang out with the birds when I need to get away from the other half. The linoleum is easy to keep clean. If I spill water while cleaning feeders or waterers it wont hurt the floor. I like it.
I like the wood floors in the breeder section though. I use bedding on the floor and when I shovel it out to clean and change it the shovel wont dig into the wood like it would linoleum. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

I use trex decking in all my lofts except one and it has finely corrugated metal. I like the trex best because I just shovel it out and being in Florida it rains a lot. When it is wet I just spray it out with a water hose. I finally got the spacing down right on the third one. Of course I ran out of trex on the third one also.
I had it left over from a job so there wont be anymore.

dont do it ,if you get a crack in it from a rock you carry in on your shoes, bacteria gets under the panel.also at some point the coners may come up..also it will be slippery when wet. dont want to break any old bones. think safety first for you and your family. it sounds like a goood idea but when you are scraping a hard droping you may put A WHOLE IN THE LINOLLIEM. HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT, YOU GET THE IDEA. KEEP IT SIMPLE.JUST A THOUGHT. IVE HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE WRONG. JT SMASH

Hey JT, Let's ask Butch how he likes it in his "Human areas" as I agree with you, that's the only place I'd put it! Must look and smell good. How does it hold up to pebbles......good question! Otis
