For anyone who might be interested, I've posted 14 pics of George Mason birds. The youngest is 7 weeks old; the oldest still less than 4 months. They came direct from George and all photos are very recent.
The URL is as follows: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/shaun.daley
Two of the birds, I've labelled mealies - one a no-bar. But, I'm not sure they are mealies. Does anyone have a more accurate description?

Awsome pics------I am no expert, but those look like Rollers to me. I have some birds that are supposed to be from "Mason stock", they look very much the same in body type. I have just started flying 4 young birds, about 6 mos old. They are alredy starting to perform. Good luck with your birds. Bob

Bob, George tells me that his youngsters are coming into the roll earlier each year, but with none of the possible problems of rolldowns. That has to be good, doesn't it?
I'm not sure I've got the patience to wait for up to a year to see birds roll, as some do. The first five I obtained from George were 8 weeks old. I had them up in the air within a week and the rolling started pretty much straightaway.
However, George was honest enough to tell me that whilst it's great to see them rolling (and kitting very well, too) some of the birds might never get any better than that, whilst others might well develop further over the coming months.
Cheers.

Siddiquir, where were you a couple of weeks back, when I had a question - albeit without a pic - as to what you guys would call it? Your pics 12 and 14, far right, white bird, grizzle head, dark flights and tail.
I've just bred one and I recognised it from a tippler I had over 30 years ago. Back then , we called it a Macclesfield high flyer. Macclesfield is a town not too far from good old Birmingham.
Having bred this babe, I trawled many roller books and saw nothing similar within the roller pics. I then looked on the Internet, but there was only one Dutch pigeon site which had the same bird, and they called it Macclesfield as well.
I bred mine from a dark chequer w/f and a red mottle, so it looks bugger all like either of them. How did you get yours and how do you describe it?

Shaun, I believe you need to know about the birds in circle (Please see the pics below).
Also note I put an arrow on brown bird they both are nestmate. I am not good in genetic but the parents were
- Cock black with little bit of white in it - Hen white with little bit brown around neck area
They all are Rick Mee birds
Hope that helps.

Very interesting. The nestmate to my 'Macclesfied' was a red chequer self (self: daft word meaning all the same colour), very similar to what you've just pointed out as being the nestmate to yours. Intriguing...

Shaun,
The bird you call mealy no bar (also know as barless mealy) would genetically be known as a spread ash. Basically, it's to ash what black is to blue. It's a red check or red bar bird that has Spread added to it. Obviously, yours is also a baldhead. http://www.angelfire.com/ga3/pigeongenetics/Spread.html
As for the Macclesfield, there are a lot of birds this color in tipplers as you mention. It looks to be what pigeon geneticists have termed Light Print (there is also a dark print). They seem to be alleles of grizzle from what I remember reading and they are inherited independently. The red in the photo above that is the nestmate looks like it may go more white as it get older. It's a bit hard to tell from the pic, but it may be a recessive red and also grizzled (it may be with undergrizzle.)
One of the main things we've found out in the past fifteen years or so is that there isn't just one grizzle. We have the classic grizzle (of the dragoon) that is a semi-dominant, with single dose grizzle looking like dragoons and double dose grizzles looking like "stork-marked" stuff. Then we have undergrizzle, flash grizzle, what seems to be a grizzle allele in Frillbacks, light print, dark print, etc. Honestly, I'm not even up on some of them because I've been so busy building my business I've let some of this go.
If you want exact answers, you might also want to contact Paul Gibson (Pigeon Genetics News Views and Comments) with the pic (pigeongibs@aol.com) or subscribe to the pdf form of the newsletter itself.

Thanks, Frank. That was very imformative. I was concerned that my Macclesfield (looking more like a tippler than a roller) might rise up into the clouds and disappear for the best part of the day, without so much as a roll on the ascent. However, this last couple of days, I'm seeing a few flips here and there at just 8 weeks old, so maybe it's a roller after all!
Cheers.

Riaan, sorry I did not see your post until today. Here is what I did to make pictures available here
1) Copy all pictures to webserver (space provided by internet provider) 2) Link them here by using following html code.
<*img src="http://mywebpages.comcast.net/siddiqir/rollers/loft1.jpg">
Note do not use * after < I did it to make code available otherwise you see pics instead of code.
So if you would like to post pictures first you need to copy them to free picture hosting webserver and then use above code to link pics here. Just replace mywebpages.comcast.net/siddiqir/rollers/loft1.jpg with free hosting webaddress and directory if any and picture name. Feel free to e-mail me if you have additional questions. I am at siddiqir@yahoo.com
I hope that helps.

Wayne, the original post for this thread was nearly two years ago and for some reason has just been resurrected for someone's test post. The squeakers I had a link to back then, grew up and became breeders.
