It is about three weeks since I took the last squeakers from my pairs. None of them have layed an egg since, could it be they have had enough, bearing in mind I paired up in January?
Would it be worth seperating them for a week or so to get them excited again?
All advice appreciated.

Thanks for that, probably not temperature, not generaly a problem over here. I would imagine it is the start of the moult as you suggest.
What is the best course of action to get them going again, should I just leave them and will they get going when they are ready.
Thanks.

I would just let them be Ally. They will resume when they are ready. This is not something you can spur along as nature has a say so in what they choose to do this time of year. Brian

Thanks chaps.
I will just relax and let the birds do the same, I suppose it is quite a long haul for them, I will give them some 7 in 1 to help them along.
I also took delivery of 2 pairs last week, (on loan, three birds are direct from Graham Dexter, the boy I got them from has just moved house so they werent paired up this year, I shall concentrate on them for the next wee while. Thanks again.

My pairs have stopped breeding as well. The over whelming humindity may be to blame. It has been feeling like 120 plus with this humidity while actually only being in the high 80's-90's.It is making my kit birds drop feathers like you wouldn't know. Another cause for my breeders to slow in their egg laying process or totally stop is that acouple of my individual breeding pen is lacking sufficient lighting. Only the top row are laying on a regular cycle (which is about 9 days per each clutch). In the second row, the last pen is slow to lay. I don't breed out of the bottom row so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it is in the same catagory. This last row is used to pair up pairs. The heat wave may be to blame. Hell, I am still wacking away trying to get anything from my pairs. Thor

Two words.Swimmng pool. I bathe my breeders at least twice a week. Usually on Sunday afternoon/evening,I watch them while I BBQ, then again about Wednesday. We have been 97-100 for a long time. I am winding down now for lack of space. I have been getting the 9-10 day schedule with no problems. My birds also have access to an exercise pen.I feel this is key to a successful breeding program. v99

Bobby.Depending on where you live and how you have your lofts set up for the weather. Here in Pa. I start putting some of my breeders together around the week of Thanksgiving. This gives me an early kit or 2 to get started in the air early in the year. This year my first round was hatched the week of Jan. 15th.I then breed thru July or whenever I get my kit boxes filled. Then I finish out the year breeding my project pairings of different families and experiment with the different factors in my rollers. This is what I do.David

Hi, David and you many other contributing Americans. I have the tiniest of complaints. Us Brits and possibly roller blokes from other parts of the world, have difficulty with things like 'Thanksgiving' and 'Pa'. It's great that these forums are viewed the world over - or, at least I assume they are! But If I were to post 'Bm' (meaning Birmingham) or mention Whitsun (an English public holiday in May), there would probably be some scratching of foreheads in the US.
So, months are easier to understand. I also love hearing of where you guys are based, but sometimes the abbreviation leaves me guessing. Just remember us roller people outside of the US, are not necessarily acquainted with all the state abbreviations. David, do I take it that Pa is Pensylvania?

Shaun.Very good point. However it is easier to answer each one that don,t know than change my way of talking.LOL. Yes I am in Pennsylvania. Thanksgiving is a holiday in the last week of November. The monday following Thanksgiving is when our Deer Season with rifle starts. In those 2 weeks my birds think I deserted them except for feed & water.LOL. LOL means laugh out loud. David

I kid ye not (that's olde English), when I first started viewing these roller forums, the LOL had me guessing for quite some time. The other one is 'yits'. I thought that was some little exclamation which people gave out when they'd completed a post - a little orgasm, if you will.
Tony, we need an index - explanatory notes of common terms and abbreviations...
