I am new and just had a few questions. I am curious to how many different strains of b rollers there are. What kind do most of the people that compete raise. How many competitions are there for some one to enter their birds.

There are as many strains of Birmingham Roller as there are breeders of the breed. Once you pick your pairs, they are pretty much yours to ruin or maintain/better.
Altho you have to remember that the majority of the quality birds out here today all originated down from the same source. Just branched out in the direction of it's previous owners ideals.
All of the U.S. and Canadian Birmingham Rollers were imported in from England. It pretty much blossumed from there. Of course, if one of the branches was crossed onto another breed... it no longer came from the same tree.
Each state has their own local clubs. Each club has different rules and flys. My club holds about 7 or 8 competition flys in a year and on the off months hold lawn show and tell or meetings with a Roller Show. Some clubs only hold 2 to 4 flys in a year. It all depends where you live and how many true fliers you have around you.
Heck, if you had atleast 10 true fliers, you would have a competition every month - except for those harsh Winter months.
The strains are infinite. Altho, if I had a family that in every leg of its pedigree branched back to one guy, I would term it '(blank) BASE'. For example, Plona BASE or Pensom BASE or Evan BASE, etc. If not, then they should carry your name.
