Steve, I had seen Joe Borges birds fly this year in the WC and I was awe struck. They were the most awsome birds I had ever seen. They were the fastest velocity and would roll for four seconds. I mean you could count 1-2-3-4 and then they would fly right back to kit after flying 40 feet or more. Not every bird did this, but he had several birds in his 20 bird kit rolling like that. They were the most stable rollers coming out of the loft I had ever seen also, they did a few flips but waited until they were about 150 to 200 feet up and then they let lose and began to roll. Not one bird was dangerous taking off even thought there were some 40 -50 foot rollers in the lot.
Off couse I called him and asked if I could buy some from him and he gladly sold me some squeakers. I offer him a price and he gave them to me for half of what I offered. I think Ken Billings birds also go to back to him. I have some friends who wanted Billings birds and I told them go to the source and try and make your own.
I think they are not for beginners because they seem to sky out easily? They may be hard to handle as some call it. I am sure going to give them a good try. I had no idea that someone so close to me in Northern Calif had such awsome rollers when so many are looking far from here to get some good birds. Even I had gone out of state for a few birds before. If you have not seen Joe Borges birds fly then you have really missed a great kit. It was like going back in time to See Bill Penosm rollers as he described them in his book. Now I have a real vision in my head what they should look like in the air. ( I told Joe that they were nice looking birds at his place and he laughed and said, well they look like pigoens!!!) I can't tell you much about flying them yet. I told Joe that alot of people would like his birds if they saw them, he said I am not a pigeon factory so I would sudgest to go see his birds on fly day and get to know him a bit and I'm sure he would help out most anybody. I had to wait a while for some birds and I told him I would wait until next year if I had to. Borges and Kieser has the same family. Many people have gotten birds from them to add quality and velocity to thier stock from what I have just learned recently. Good luck Bill, -- besided 514 273 also

Hi Steve,
I got some birds from Borges and Kiser.. I also got birds from a few other guys but all had one thing in common,, They all came through Herb Sparks hand via Howard McCully.. McCully lived next door to Pensom at the time of his death. He worshiped Pensom and had a lot of Pensom's best stock. When Howard died, Herb Sparks got all the birds. Him and his good friend Bill Mcrae. When Herb moved from Souther Calif to Colorado, he left his birds in the care of Borges/Kiser, that is where the stock Borges flys came from.. So my birds do have some Borges/Kiser but they also have other birds down from the sparks birds in them.. The common ground is that everything in my loft goes back to the Pensom/Mcully/ Sparks birds, as does Borges birds.. I was just up in Calif and seen Borges fly a few times. He is flying some very nice rollers.. and he is one of the good guys.. Mongrel Lofts

Hey Bill,
Kiser was up here at my place in Idaho year before last. He brought me a present. An old black cock bird that was close up 272 and sister hen.. BRA-92-1290.. I mated him on a pure 1079 x 369 sister hen and got some smokers. I thought last year was probably his last season to breed, but he has two in the box and two fertile in the nest. Hasn't missed an egg yet.. New mate this year.. Looks like this old cock, may have a place in the future of my stud?

PS.. Tried to put a photo of the old cock and his mate in here, but it wouldn't go,, Is there anyway to post pictures on this forum?

Kenny, you have to post your photos on a photo hosting page. There are several free ones out there such as photobucket.com, etc. Then after you have uploaded your images to your new photo page on that website, you copy the link of the particular opened photo(right click>copy). Then you can add this link to your message and the image will come up. You have to make sure and put jpg after the link. Most links don't include the file type which is the key to your image showing up.

Bill I enjoyed reading your post and it's cool to see you really fired up !!!!!!!
Old Joe Borges is no doubt a real asset and a real pleasure to fly with.
I am glad to see that you are heading that direction bird wise because those birds are no doubt the real deal.

hey kenny, scotty how are you guys doing i knew you guys had this birds but just wanted to know who else had them
as this is probably one of the best years i have ever had with my birds.i had jr, and gonzalo over today to show them my birds and they were really impressed especially with a dark blue check that is a smoker with out blowing smoke out of my a@@. it probably went about 60 ft. also there is a little pepper head from jack that is probably goin close to 60ft 70ft with good frequency better than twice a minute and right back to the kit. plenty of breaks
today but saturday was the best i have ever had them at 43 breaks in 20 min... i just had to call somebody and jr came over sunday and they still were smoking probably 20 breaks on sunday i am just ziked. keep em rolling guys.

Good to hear they are working for you Steve. When I judged your birds last spring I could see they had a whole lot of potential, and were pretty frequent that day too. Keep working on them so you can kick Scott's ass in a few months..lol.
BTW, Kiser was here today with JV and Destout. Flew some kits for them and sat around shooting the bull about rollers. Always nice to start the day off that way.

Hey Brian,
I think you're about an hour from me.
I'd love to stop by one of these days to visit?!
Hey is John still a big jolly fellow?! LOL
I met him a couple of years ago when Ken Easley judged the World cup in our region. He probably won't remember me but he was funny and I enjoyed him.
See you in the roll.

Al, stop by any time. Most guys see the birds flying from the freeway and stop by. I had two different guys from the club stop by today, just because they saw the birds up.
John is still jolly, but not as big anymore. He just bought one of those big dollar spreads up above me here in Norco and will be moving out here next month.

Hey Scott Welcom back, I was holding down the fort while you were on vacation. LOL
Mongrel lofts, I had seen you twice and once was at Joe Borges place by the lake I didn't know you nor did you probably know who I was either at the time?
I had just visited with Joe Kiser a few weeks ago. He gave me some good informaiton and I really enjoyed all what he was teaching me. I am lucky to have these guys so close to me. After visiting with Joe Kiser I am now holding all my best rollers and trying to get a grip on the body type and compare that with the ones that are sloppy and or roll down. Other things also.
I also visited with Chan recently and he and I talked for sometime on these birds. He is sharp as a whistle and has told me many back grounds of these birds and where they came from. I really value our friend ship. It never fails I learn something from Chan that is just not common place but have great depth and experience behind all his thoughts on the roller pigeon.
I have had some slow work with all this rain and it gave me some social time. I had visited when my kids were in school. My two boys start little league soon and I will be busy with being a Dad and practicing alot this spring but the NCRC roller exhibition is Dads day off. See ya there. Bill C
