do you guys think a person can correctly describe thier rollers as frequent deep and great kiters whith out ever getting out of thier own backyard and watching real world class kits such as those flown by some of the members of the C.P.R.C. ?
I spent some time getting out and seeing a lot of kit's in Fall Fly prelims and World Cup prelims and I learned a lot I think that was the best thing I could have done to get a better "DESCRIPTION" of what real World Class rollers look like Thanks

Hi George, I agree with you. Guys who don't get out of their yards or fly in the big flys, Have no idea on average what it takes to breed and fly World Class Rollers. Their are so many back yard talkers in this sport it is hard to believe. Way more guys worried about selling rollers than flying great rollers. Way more guys worried about what a bird looks like, than what it rolls like. Way more guys worried about having a get together, than flying rollers that are world class. Facts are, most roller breeders talk the big talk about great rollers in their lofts. Then make up excuses why they don't fly in competition..There are reasons why they don't let non flyers vote on fly rules George. Its because most non flyers, have no idea what flying rollers is really about..They are what the fly guys call keepers. They would like nothing more than to have a say on a fly they will never enter. Odd isn't it? George, this is a long winded way of saying. Yea, I think guys should get out and see great kits,, especially before they buy birds from a guy who won't put his birds up to compare and find out if they really are as good as they are telling us.. Just my Opinion. Mongrel Lofts

I have done both. I have seen the great kits of those who are competing in the WC and NBRC flys and I have seen those back yard breeders who have choose not to compete.
I have seen great kits from both and I have seen junk from both type of flyers. The non-competitors tend to have smaller operations consequently being only able to put up a smaller number of birds, but often thier birds are quality performers. Many non-competitors seem to have less time to spend or take less time to spend with thier birds. This usually means their birds are sometime in worse physical shape then the competitor.

Hey guys--What about the average backyard fancier who just wants to fly his/her birds for personal pleasure? I love these birds and I strive to have good stock birds and 2 or 3 kits to fly. I would love to have a local club to join, compete with, and just talk birds with. It would relly be nice to have even 1 other Roller fancier within 50 miles to talk, swap birds with. I am just getting back into Rollers after 15 yr lay off. You can't imagine how hard it is to get good birds to start with in Taylor,Arizona LOL Just another opinion

George, Some guys can and some guys can't. But I think that the ones that can have to understand the 'true rolling' type of bird and know what quality rollers look like in the air. Once they've seen it, it should be pretty clear to them what quality is, whether they compete or not. Some guys have had the priviledge of being friends with competitors and seen the birds fly and would be able to describe it pretty accurately.
But for the guy that's never seen quality, I doubt it. Experience is the best teacher!

LOL Paul, another member of this forum had the same thing happen. I've made some more headway with that family this year from what I have seen from the young so far and will have more pairs down for next year. Hit me up next spring and I'll hook you up with some to try out. Brian.

George, You're right on about getting out of the backyard and visiting other top lofts. I wish that a few newbies could have joined me at Brian McCormicks house yesterday and witnessed some good roll! There was a super standout bird in the first kit that is about as good as they get with velocity and style. Anybody that witnesses a bird like that will have an understanding of what they should be breeding for. Brian, thanks for the hospitality and generosity yesterday!I really enjoyed watching the kits and handling your birds.

Thanks Russ. I just got back into town. As always you are more than welcome any time. It was nice to have you over and fly several kits of youngin's that at least gave us something to watch. I hope those pairs you took home work out just as well. Brian.
