Since I'm relatively new to rollers (currently a racer) I was wondering what everyone would recommend to someone getting started at this time of year. I'm getting some young birds (from the raffle) and some baldheads purchased from eggbid.
Would you start training after I get the birds settled or am I going about this the wrong way?
Thanks,
Ian

Oh no, eggbird.com birds... no they are bald heads. (grin)
Eggbid birds have gotten a bad rap for selling birds that aren't worth any thing. Most of these birds are tagged with a well known fanciers name to hype their birds. Altho I not saying there aren't a good bird now and then, 99% of what has been posted there have been junk.
Nice pretty birds on there... (grin)
Good luck with the birds,
Thor

P.S. I would stock anything I purchased that has been proven out or recommended by the original breeder.

Ian,

I am currently getting rid of a proven pair of Rollers. They have been in my loft for 3 year. I am parting with them because I need to open up some nest boxes. Anyway...email me at paulfullerton@sbcglobal.net or call me tormorrow(Saturday) at 530-662-7550. We can talk about it if you are interested and I will send you some photos of the pair. Hope to hear from you.

Thanks for all your help! I guess I'll have to be rather harsh in my selection of who stays in my loft when the birds finally arrive from my eggbid purchase.
Paul, I'll try to get a hold of you tomorrow.

I am fairly new to this. just started my loft, had one quite a few years ago. have 20 rollers, most are yearlings. I am absolutely confused with what to call my birds, colorwise. everyone that i talk to calls the bird a different color. Any website where i can find proper color names and descriptions. any advice?

for color pictures and descriptions check out the color chart at http://www.slobberknockerlofts.com . Also, you may find more discussion of colors on the NPRA board room. There is a link to the NPRA site on slobberknocker's site. Keep current on both discussion sites and any others you can find as well. There is lots of good information here on performance, and the NPRA site goes into color and performance issues.

Ian. There is some good rollers sold on eggbid.Don,t let other folks opinion interfere with what you do.Granted there is a lot of questionable birds sold on eggbid but I am sure you asked questions of the seller before buying.I even sell on Eggbid from time to time and I guarantee you I don,t sell junk on there.
Also some of my better breeders I bought from a fellow selling on Eggbid.
So whereever you get your birds from fly them out and pick from the air what you like and you are on your way.David

Hi Ian,
David and Dan both hit it on the nose. Good advice from both.
