hello all! My last post was aug.18th--Why rollers?--well I have made what I belive is a clear headed decision.I have decided ROLLERS!I Weighed the plus and minus of homers and rollers--The plus in favor of homers---You win based on time alone, the clock does not lie,the minus--cost! it takes thousands to buy top birds, computer clocks not to mention lofts, which of course you have with any birds. There is also the weekly road trips 50-100miles-and the only High you get is at the end of the race --and not really even then-you have to wait for a piece of paper!-nobody comes to your house to enjoy your birds .It appears to me to be a rich mans sport .No bad blood talking here,I am just not in that league.---Now rollers,--The minus first,A judges eyes are not as certin as a clock, what one judge sees and another judge sees can be different on any given day. There are allso the variables from loft too loft--different winds, high pressure at one loft and 100 miles away lowerpresure and different winds-also rollers seem to be much more suseptable to hawks. But I belive the plus outweights the minus--The plus --Its not just the end of the race its every day in the air in your own back yard!I like the Idea of folks comeing to my house to see what I have or havent done with my birds. The cost is not Penuts but you dont have to sell your children to start in the hobby.I have ordered some birds from Tony Chavaria--Rollerpigeion.com--I am building my breeding lofts now.Two lofts 6x8-with 6 nest boxes each-flypen etc.I will need all the support you can give me.I read allmost every post that you good folks post!Thank you to all!

Have a ball with them everyday and make sure you laugh at the agravation they can give you. Each day they will perform differently until you get that right team. One day you want to caul them all and another day they will make you proud.............they are "joyfully" agravating.
Fly them hard!

Aloha Mike,GOOD to hear your on the path of the roller pigeon.I have been flying Ruby rollers for over a year now and are a good strain for someone starting out, they do not fly very high, extended periods of time, and do not tend to overfly, the roll is decent, small to medium birds. The Rubys have some well marked colors lavenders, mealy bars, deep red checks and balds. If I could make a suggestion;if you are going for a 10 bird kit,see if Tony will sell you a pair to breed from,so you can get a few more on the wing before a year.BTW,the lavenders are my favorites.ALOHA,Todd
