Hey guys...

Something interesting crossed my mind today regarding the improvement of the Birmingham Roller. We hear a lot of famous names of rollermen from today and yesterday. Some say the rollers of yesterday were better, some say they were just as good way back when as the ones today, some say today's rollers are faster, some say today we're more knowledgable. I even have an opinion about all that!! LOL!! However, for now I'd like to know how much better you think the best of the best can get? (In terms of rollers) In other words... This is the year 2005. Is it just our overall knowledge of feeding, breeding and genetics that's improved? Or have the birds gotten better and if they indeed have, how much better can the best of the best get at this point in time?
Have any of you seen birds that made you think...
"Thats it!" You can't improve on that!"----------
How much closer are we today to perfection?
Just food for thought! :-)
See you in the roll...

I believe the rollers of today are much improved over the rollers of yesterday(I am old enough to have lived in the yesterday). Knowledge and information thru comunication is probably the reason. This machine we all set in front of is key.

We have improved our breeding habits; improved our feeding practices; we medicate and supplement more wisely; and the list goes on.

Just the average loft today would be a super loft of yesterday.............we pass on information effeciently now days.....today's breeder has more "tools" to work with then ever before and it shows.

I am well into my 60's and I have seen the birds of many....these are the best of times for our fantastic little birds; those agravating little bastards - I love'em

I agree with nicksiders, like any field you pick humans have made progress and things got better, same principal apply to rollers...

Hi Nick and upcd,

So do you think that 20 years from now the guys will be saying their birds are better? When you look at the "Best of the best" that you've seen, can they get any better as an overall , or are we just shooting for personal preferences in rollers at this time?----------
See you in the roll!

We are no better than the very, very best of yesterday. There were but a few of the very best in the yesterday and now this website is crowded with some top notch breeders. Overall from top to bottom we are better today than yesterday......................geesh, I hope that made sence.

hmmmm......

The rank and file breeder of today has better birds then those rank and file breeders of yesterday. The common everyday backyard breeder of today would be the top of the hobby yesterday.

Because I don't see an improvement or increase in the comunications or tools we use today I do not feel that the breeders in 20 years will not be that much better than the breeders of today. I feel there will be more breeders than we have today and as a consequence there will be more great breeders than we have today.
