Hi Everyone

The program that Big Al gave me is still working today. In the program he told me to use Canadian peas, here we can't get that!So I used Soya beans because it's so high in proteins! Then I found out pigeons can't digest raw soya beans so I baked them for an hour.Soya makes them fly in your face for hours and makes them roll shorter.I would like if you guys could try it and let me know what you all think.

Riaan,

Soya is not a very good idea to your rollers. It packs allot of protein and fat. As a matter of fact, it contains tons of it. Try using a good pigeon mix instead. It contains Canadian Peas and other grains that are much better suited for pigeons. Don’t expect others to try it, because they know better.

Any feed store will carry a good pigeon mix without or with corn. Try that and you will see a big difference.

Hi Jay

I think you guys misunderstood me,it's not in maintaining the bird but preparing them for competion. They'll fly spec today(they are very fit I've been training them for months),feed them soya and tomorrow they'll for an hour in your face.Birds that normally roll 2 seconds only roll 1.5 seconds.

I do not understand what you are trying to say,do you prefer
your pigeons to fly for one hour and roll shorter.( are they
more active and what is the quality like ?)
Have you ever tried using Maple Pea instead of soya beans.
Do you only feed the soya the day before competition.

Hi TJ

If you work your birds hard with milo they tend to pull up because they get lighter and lighter. The soya I'm using at the moment is cooked(steamed) tested to be 38% protein.
This high amount of protein tends to keep them down, the cooked soya works in 24 hours and the raw soya only in 96 hours.(Still good quality and active, only breaking on the corners of the figure 8)

Hi

An endurance athlete needs to carbo load for endurance, body builder uses a higher intake of proteins to build muscle,so the more carbohydrates you feed your pigeons the higher and faster they fly,the higher the protein the slower they will fly and in your face.

Good info. Riaan. I feed about 30% Austrian peas to fly rollers. Low fat contents and loaded with protein. Just trying to figure out what are the benefits feeding Austrian peas over Soya Beans. They both loaded with protein not sure about fat contents in Soya Beans.
Austrian peas have about or less the 2.5% fat
