Well the Fall fly prelims are under way and if you know of any scores let us know.

Brian McCormick's team drilled 400 something WOW! now thats what I call a World Class Kit ,with a score like that he's in the running in just about any kit comp held in the world.

Thanks George. The A team scored 432 and the B team (young birds) scored 530. I was in the lead until this morning when Jerry busted out a moster kit racking up 920 points!!!. One more day left to go, I just hope the 530 can stay in second place or at least in one of our four qualifying spots. Still a couple of kits with top ranking potential to be flown tomorrow.

Very nice job Brian! Not all in our hobby have witnessed such a display of flying. I know it was one heck of of a sight to see!
Later you must tell us what had up there? My guess is you had some of those Black Elvis in the air.

Well we are now finished and Jerry Higgins won the region with 920 points from a kit many said was one of the best he has flown in years. Congrats to Jerry. I resided in second place with Tim Decker and Abel Ibarra taking up the last two qualifying spots. There were 40 kits flown over four days.
Ronnie, to answer your question, there were about eight B.E. birds in the old kit along with some Horner/Reeds, two 272 Early birds and one Westfall bird. The 530 young kit had about 6 B.E. birds and a mixture of the Horner/Reed crosses, two up tight Reed birds, one Westfall and one 272 background bird. Both kits were, as you can see, a mix of different stuff. Thanks for the compliments.
Brian.

Thanks Scott.I am sure going to need it.With this past weeks,Weather,Hawks and Moult I am down to just scratching my head and wondering what my next move will be.If they do bad it won't be because I havn't tried.LOL.
I can see why you fellows force the moult.I do know that after friday they will go on lockdown untill after the Hawks thin out.The younger kits can do battle with them from time to time. Most of my time the next 3 month will be devoted to Hunting.hehe
Don,t you fly this weekend? Good Luck whenever you do.David

Well the Fall Fly Final is over for me.Birds just couldn,t get it going right. They did squeeze out 66 points. Here is the results.
10 to 19 foot = 26
20 to 29 foot = 36
30 to 44 foot = 3
Ex.Speed = 1
Met some very nice roller fliers and a Great Judge Mel Stalzer. We had a blast. Some of the Md. fellows arrived before daylight. We wound everything up around 1:00 and Mel had to catch a flight out to Mass.tonite.What a job he has ahead of him the next month. And don,t think that men are the only roller nuts.Had 2 ladies here today that are very serious about rollers and we even had some interesting conversations about genetics. These ladies are serious and are going to compete next year. And they are getting their kit together by the birds they will be breeding themselves.David

Scott.Yes I am satisfied somewhat. At least it is a start.LOL.The birds today acted like they were watching what all we were doing down on the ground. They were different than what I have ever seen them. They acted like I feel most of the time.Just going thru the motions.LOL.I am off to hunt the Early muzzleloader season which opens tomorrow.I don't even want to think about a roller.Yeah right.LOL. Congrats Dave! Good job. You should be proud especially given the fact that many people will never even qualify for one of these big competitions. It has been my opinion that just qualifying is the win, competing in the finals is just icing on the cake. Good luck with the hunt.
Brian.

David,

The day of my fly the winds were at about 20-25mph. What I did is pull my 6 best birds..and replaced them with some ok birds and put the kit up anyway. I should have not flown any birds...Chuck Roe did not fly because of the wind. Right off the bat....they got blown off about a half mile or so...the whole 20 minutes they were fighting the wind trying to get back. They got back at about the 15 minute mark. They were still trying to roll even with the high winds. I was so pissed that it was windy...I had them dialed in. The judge really like the birds that rolled even in crappy wind! He told me that he could tell they had it if they were still trying to roll under these conditions....and he wanted to see the kit fly on a good day. He wrote down his phone number so he could come back. So I chose not to fly my second kit because of the wind. He put on the score sheet...."Kit blown away by heavy wind....Birds that did roll showed excellent speed, quality and depth" That is the way the ball bounces. I was pretty upset when I got up that morning and saw the trees bent over..LOL...the day before was perfect weather. So far I have had no hawk problems. All the prep for nothing!
