If you had to build a new kit box. What would you do different? Would you incorporate anything new. I want to build four kit boxes side by side.Without a gap between them. They will be in my horse barn. and have a big wire pen over and around them that I can walk into. With the release door and traps on outside wall of the barn. What would you consider the perfect size? Box pearch- V perch? 45 degree drop pipe or wire trap? I don't want to have to re-do them in a few years. All suggestions will be appreciated! Ps If you want to send pictures my E-Mail is kctapp1@netzero.com. or explain someting on the phone my no. is [517-283-7043] Thanks ---------- Tapp

If I redo my kit boxes I will use heavier siding or plywood.
I built my boxes 8 X 4 X 4 and put a wall or partician in the middle creating two 4 X 4 X 4 kit boxes.
Just some ideas

I would make them shallower--You need to be able to reach all the perches. I made mine 4' high x 3'deep x 4'wide. Dark is better, they seem to kit tighter, screen floor(less mess) I used 2x4 for perches--6" long,8" apart. 25 perches per kit. Just how I did mine--Bob

Guys, My kitbox is 4x4x3.There aren`t a lot of variations on the basic box itself. Most come in the form of hardware, flooring and feeding aparatus. Two things I would do differently are, putting my feeding system on the outside of the box, and raising the box higher on its legs so I don`t have to bend over while cleaning. Perches are also another consideration. I use v perches. They are easy to make and install. V perches keep the fighting to a minimum and the birds are really clean. They are not as space effiecient as boxes but I like them better. These are a few things I would take into careful consideration. Good luck with the new box YITS v99

guys this is how I built my kit boxs. First I decided the size I wanted each kit box to be. I decided own 30 inches wide 34 inches deep and 48 inches high in the back and 46 in the front to shed water. this made my kit box a total of 10 foot long. the first thing I did was make a steel frame. I used three-quarter by three-quarter eighth inch steel angle iron. I added six 2 foot legs to get my highth I wanted.I used three quarter inch exterior grade plywood for the walls. I wanted it sturdy enough if I ever had to move it. It would be no problem. I mounted the frame to the outside of my breeder pen wall. I made one door for each kit box 38 inches high by 17 inches wide. I like one door on my kits boxes because it allows me to put my body in the door and reaching in and catch a bird without other birds flying out the door.I used 1 x 4 exterior grade pine to Build the perchs I made them 8 inches high x 9inches wide.I used 1 x 2 wire for the floor. I use a gravity feed watering system through out my breeder pen and kit boxes. I use the small quail waters I think I got a jedds. For each breeder pen and kit box. They are the little orange waters I'm not sure quail waterers is the correct name.I put a light in each kit box because sometimes I have to feed late.I put my traps on each door they are 6 inches high by 8 inches wide. The tank I use for my waters is a 48 quart igloo ice chest with the door in place to keep the algae down. I have to fill it about every three days in the summer time.I don't know if any of this will help you but it worked great for me. ---------- yours in the sport Rick
