I know that if you line up 10 roller people and ask them to describe a very fast spinner the descriptions may vary, but generally speaking...
On the average how long can a bird hold the quality and maintain the depth of an extremely fast, fast spin?
What do you think? 30', 25', 10' etc...

I saw a bird at Joe Bower's house a few years ago hit a super fast and straight roll for 150 ft or more. We swore that bird was doomed. But it snapped out of the roll clean and returned to the kit like nothing ever happened. To this day that was one of the most impressive single performances I have ever seen. So if you are asking me that question, I will say 150 feet, because I saw it first hand...lol.

Well Al, it was just a fuzzy round ball coming down perfectly straight. In fact, if I remember correctly, about half way down several of us commented that it seemed like it even changed gears and got faster in the latter half of the roll. I have yet to see a bird do what that bird did that day.

Al I think that on average it is between the 30-40 mark , I will breed super deep birds here and there , if they live and are able to learn to control it they will shorten up to the 30-40 (the good one's) once this happens the speed and qaulity really pick up. This is what I see in "my" birds.
I just don't put much stock in young super deep birds as they either shorten up or they end up killing themselfs in time.
In fact I look at any young bird as nothing but potential ,once they mature tells the true tale of their value in the air.
The ones that get a handle on roll and extream depth can be "super" birds once shorten up and they mature , if I am looking for "heat" it is out of these type of birds that I go to, depending on how well they handled themselfs going through that curve (how they handled themselfs being the key !!!!!!!).
There are exceptions here and there to everything though, but how many 80 ft 3 year olds that can hammer it flawlessly and pop out of the roll like it never happened have you seen ?

how about two nestmates that were beyond your expectations
both were exceptional in the air i had people come over just to see them in the air and i mean people that have seen just about everything this pair would put a show everytime regardless of time and weather. just awlsome jaw dropping spins from 40feet to 80feet plus and never once look like out of control never bumped or made mistakes one in particular i call white back hit a roll in front of an audiance hit a roll for about 100 to 120 feet with quality and control. this particular pair came out of a roy trehern cock greatgreategrandson of "rusty" jacconett the bird is a 96. now in hands of a nother person darnit!

Hey fella's,

The type of speed I'm speaking of is the kind of speed that makes you wonder if the birds intestines are still intact!!! :-) Yet still show that excellent quality and style in the roll. I usually see the exceptional birds hold this type of spin for about 40' - 50' before starting to slighty come apart

big al,

thats my type of bird, darn, I lost a bird like that, she was on the hot side, but not a roll down,(until she cull herself) because it made the mistake of rolling at about 80ft right after release from kit box, down onto my roof. she only did 50ft (her average).---- rare exceptional bird indeed. today I wish she were still alive. good thing I still have the parents.

in the sport,
thong
