Hey Guys, I was just wondering, awhile back I had Dennis Burke in my backyard, and were watching some birds in the air, there were a few that were young and just starting to perform,as we watched I noticed some were rolling with their wings out, some kinda axled,or just rolled slow. This is what I had left after s major overfly 2 months prior,[some of you know how that goes, the good ones usually dont make it back,LOL]. My question to Dennis was"do rollers that perform like that early on, ever straighten out, to become good or excellent rollers"he said" almost always no"which surprised me alittle, but I have found it to be true with my experiences. What i look for in the beginning stages of developement is straightness, whether it is a fast flip or short snappy roll or more. This is what I look for, what do you for??and what are your experiances with birds straightening out after being sloppy early on??....Aloha,Todd
ps ...and by guys I include Debbie[upcd]hehe....:-)

Todd, few of my youngbirds can roll like my oldbirds , alot of it is that they try to resist the roll when they are coming in. The good ones get better and better and others just don't , the ones that don't are culled in time. Condition also plays in , right now for me flying is inconsistant so for the most part they look like crap when I do get them out.

hello todd,
from past post it looks like you got Dave Henderson's family of birds also. how are they doing for you....I too have Dave and Joe's line of birds and from my experience with them, they are not sloppy beginners, but do fast flips and then in time connects them into the roll of 5' 10' and so on. it also looks like this faimly have pretty good style already set in them ( I mean wing position) its the depth and speed that I am concern with. let me know how yours are doing? Just wonderrring if you experience the same. in the sport, thong

Thong, Which birds from Dave and Joe are you working with? Any of Joe's proven #904 or #35 stuff? Dave sent me a cock out of Joe's #35 cock and he produces some good ones that almost always start off as the short snappy type. They keep getting better as they mature and show good velocity as adults.

Russ,
I do have Joes's 904 blood, he is a smoky black self, and yes this line is pretty prepotent in the deep spin and develope early around 2-4 months. In fact this will be my main cock as he has produce 4 sons that are pretty consistent in their performance. usually in the 40' -50' range.
On the other hand I have one of Dave's 972 son, he is rec red, 30 ft somker. I have a few off of this that does show some quality spin but not as deep as Joe's 904 line. matter of fact dave sold me one of his best hen at 8 years old she is 419, but sadly I only got 2 babies and she became infertile.
I probably will just linebreed these two family as my foundation. as far as the birds go, they are doing good for me....how about you? in the sport thong

Thong, The problems I talked about in the original post, were of another line of birds.Dave Hendersons birds are doing Great for me,good team workers.I'm looking to add some depth,so I bought 2 pair from Dave in the summer, and have been waiting for the cooler temps. to ship. I have breeders from Rodman Pasco our regional champ and a 98 hen [dk. check],dave bred.If any line of birds will take further in the competions,I beleive it will be his birds......Aloha,Todd
