hello all,
just like to know from you guys if feeding your adult kit once a day is enough. I feel like my birds are starving when I do this and then I give them more feed likr twice a day--I might be overfeeding them, but they fly and do their thing as usual.
my birds aren't that light,
any way how do you guys do it?

Don't listen to the little bugers! I feed my kit birds and there crops are full and they still hang on the cage like they are starving to death. I feed all my kit birds once a day...except if I am flying my young birds twice a day...then I will feed twice a day...but my A and B team get one feeding a day on the yo-yo system. Right now they get a healthy mix due to temps coming down...But I just handled them a little today and they feel a little fat so I may cut back a little and put them on wheat for a short while.....the temps are back up to the low 70's during the day...so I can cut back a little....anyway;.....I feed the first fly day..2 cups of mix for 20-21 birds...second day rest day...1.5 cups mix and the next day...1 cup wheat/milo...the next day fly and start over...if it is real cold they stay on mix...If I am keeping them in shape with mild weather...they only get mix on the 2 cup fly day...If it is comp time Straight wheat milo and I cut back a little more on the last rest day. Anyway,....if you are feeding by the way they are acting...well you are most likely over feeding them.

I only feed once a day. I feel the birds and the ones that are a little on the light side I take them out after they have eaten and let them eat all they want, usually only once a week.

I feed my kit birds once a day, but that's what works for my birds. If twice a day works for you and you are winning with it then why change.

I had some friends over yesterday who are show guys and not roller guys. I was feeding my kits and one of the guys said "man, those guys are starving, don't you feed them every day?"
I told him they were just Oscar winning actors...lol.
Once a day is plenty. It helps to establish their metabolism. If you are every worrying about if you fed them enough, go out to your kit box in the evening and look to see if any are on the floor. If they are all on the perches, they are getting plenty to eat.

Once a day for me too. One cup to 10 birds. If you use that measure, they are fed right. In cold weather add a little more and about 10% corn. They are good actors and don't let them fool you and end end up feeding them too much.

One other bonus I noticed when I started measuring the feed and feeding out of my hand instead of letting them eat all they wanted, (as future breeders), was that I don't have to change the newspaper out from under their cages as often.

They crap a whole lot less! lol!

Kit birds once a day.....about one cup for every 10 birds.

My breeders have access to feed all day; only my breeders.
