I use power pigeon 4.0 and I really like it. I still do the notebook thing to. What I do is enter all the information...band numbers ect for each bird. I have it set up to where I register the new birds as being in the nest. When I move them to the kit box...I print a loft report..that has the color, band #, hatch date, parents and has a notes section. I put the loft report in a three ring binder. I write my notes about the bird in the notes section. If I feel that I am going to stock a bird or the bird is really good...I will transfer the information I had collected from the three ring binder and input it into the computer for that bird. It is a real good program. You can get a pedigree on the bird in an instant. If you cull a bird or sell it..you put the bird as sold or dead and move the bird to an archive section. You can put the reason you sold the bird and who you sold it to. Or the reason that the bird died..Cull, or roll down etc. You can click on a pair and it will tell you all the offspring that it produced. There are a lot of things that you can do with the program. You can print loft reports on birds by band #...hatch date...and the list goes on. It gives you percentages of cocks and hens...it is a very good program. There is a lot of racing pigeon stuff too..like fly times and so on. YOu can even download a photo of each bird too. You just have to remember that when you enter band numbers...you have to enter the band # first. For example if you have NBRC-05-1265-RK-7 You have to enter it 1265-RK-7-NBRC-05. If you do a search by band # it will looks for the first entry as the band #. You can search for a bird by band #, Color, Breeder etc. Basically it is a good program and I am happy with it. But alway print the loft reports that way you always have a hard copy for notes and I always back up onto a Zip disc every time I enter birds. Hope this helps
