Hey guys I was just wondering if someone can give me info about Joe Roe and C. Hardesty and their lines of birds. I’d like to know more about these guys if possible. Are they still around ? Their phone numbers ? Anything ??? Later

Norm,
Joe Roe gave up rollers back in the early 90s and sold and gave most of his good breeders to Richard Miller of Attica, Ohio. R. Miller, Jim Feizel and Jim Hall are all friends of Richard Miller and have the same family and they live around Clyde, Ohio. I watched their rollers many times and are very good performers. By the way R. Millers scored something like 900+ points in the W/C and accumulated enough points (hall of fame?) in the NBRC and Jim Hall scored something like 450+ points in the W/C last year with Q=1.5 and D=1.6. Check out the NBRC book and will give you those results. I don’t live far from them and will be getting together with them this coming spring and if they have extra birds this coming season I will let you know.
Carl Hardesty is still around and flies his rollers. Carl as I understand it got going with his rollers from a hen he bought from Roberts in SC. This hen was a very fast and tight. I don’t remember where I read his story but when I find it, I will let you know.

Jay and Norm, The details of Carl Hardesty's family from the Shooting Star hen was included in an article I wrote for the Sept.-Oct. NBRC journal called, "The Carolina Connection", in case you are interested. I spoke with Joe Roe last year during the color wars to confirm that he flew birds with color modifiers in his World Cup kit. He's still got a bad taste in his mouth about "roller politics", which is the reason he is no longer with us in the hobby. YITS Cliff

Yes he does. But John does not part with any of his birds. The Sandusky B Roller club and the Porthsmouth B Roller club usually (at least used to) compete with each other. Richard Miller is a very good friend of John Bender as I was told by Mr. Miller.

Jay and Cliff, I went to this fly they had in NC this year and I had a chance to meet a lot of guys up there. Man those guys are flying some of the best rollers I have ever seen. A lot of those guys have Roe-Hardesty birds and man they are something. That is where I got my birds too from a guy named Tom McDaniel and I think he has some of that blood in his birds too. Cliff you should know Tom ?? Later

Joe Roe, John Bender, Richard Miller and Carl Hardesty!!! These gentlemaen are some of my best friends. As a matter of fact John Bender and Brett McCormick got me started in rollers. Joe got out of rollers in 1996. Brett McCormick and myself were allowed to buy anything from Joe's loft with the exception of one cock bird. Which went to Richard Miller. Old 577 cock bird that was one of Joes best birds. I had bought 8 pairs and Breet bought 6 pairs. John Bender and Carl Hardesty had taught me how to see style in birds. What different style were and which were the best. Richard Miller is a great guy. He would do anything for you. He was there for Joe and others in time of need. He also showed me about style an quality. I wish I was home when Richard was in need. I'm sorry I was 5 states away and couldn't be there. Now getting a hold of these guys is pretty simple you can go to the NBRC on line and look in the great state of Ohio and get Richard Millers email addy. I don't know what John's email is. Joe Roes email addy would be his home address and I don't want to publish it on a open forum. Carl Hardesty you can find in the Kentucky section. All of these gentlemen are best of buddies. But since Joe has got out of the hobby and John had some private problems. The competitive edge is not there. Hope this helps Brian Middaugh NBRC: www.nbrconline.com

Hey Brian, You forgot about Donny James. grin Master Breeder!! Just pulling you leg, you sure had some great breeders in your back yard. I'm glad you didn't hold back and learn from some of the best. Good luck with the birds, Thor

Don't know Joe or John (other than email) Brian but I know the rest and I was Carls 5-6 years ago , they are good guys and always enjoy giving them a hard time. If you can ever get a hold of any of Monty Niebles writings the depth of his knowledge surrounding these birds is amazing and a lot can be learned from them , he was a true master no doubt also.
