i was told that when a hen lay the first egg you can take it and put it in the fridge until the 2nd egg is laid is that true?

I don't know about the refrigator.I sure wouldn't want to put them in mine.Mine is to cold.LOL.
When I hold eggs I just keep them in the basement or someplace where it is cooler than room temp.I have held them for up to 7 days with good success.I turn them everyday.
The only time I hold eggs is if the foster parents havn't laid yet.I never take the first egg from the parents.They may look like they are sitting the egg but most times they havn't started the incubation untill after the second egg is laid.They just hover over it to protect it.Sometimes a young hen will sit the first egg and you wind up with young a couple days apart but it soon catches up with its nestmate.Other than that I just let nature run its course.David

In the past I have put my breeders together in mid February. I found in my early rounds that frequently only one egg would hatch. Assuming that the first eggs were getting chilled, I started bringing them inside and replacing them with a dummy egg. Kept them in the bedroom (much to the chagrin of the princess), turned them daily, and replaced them in the nest when the second egg was laid. The end result-both eggs started hatching. Now I routinely carry out this procedure for my early rounds, and as a bonus both squabs hatch on the same day.
