Hi guys,
Quick question here. I have an hen that seems egg bound. So I was just wondering what the best treatment would be for her. She is barely walking, she already laid one egg but having trouble with the other one. Any input would be great. Thanks Later

Use a small syringe, the type for hand feeding preferrably. Fill it with olive oil or another natural cooking oil. Carefully insert the tip of the syringe around the edges of the vent. The egg will be just on the other side so you have to be careful not to break it. If you break it, for some reason the bird will usually die. I have no idea why.
Squirt the oil around the egg. Don't worry, some will flow out of the vent. Then just sit her back into a pen and sometime in the next few hours she should pass the egg.
I read somewhere where someone gave an egg bound hen a couple of vitamin E capsules and that made them pass it the egg. Never tried it because the oil insertion method has worked everytime for me. Good luck.
Brian.

Brian,
Your knowledge seems to be endless. I will copy this down for future uses.
Oh, is there any way I put this info in one of the up coming club bulletins.
Thanks,
Thor

Endless? Naw, most the time I am probably full of shite! There are seldom any set rules when it comes to pigeons. For every thing I know to try or do, there are another half dozen other ways that other people know of that works too.

Brian, when dealing with any living creature (including humans) I think very little is cut in stone. The guy who keeps his eyes and ears open and refuses to lock into the "gospel" is most likely to succede(sp). In 50+ years of dealing with hounds I've figured out a little bit about tweaking them to get the best performance. After 3 years with rollers, I'm still floundering. Advice from guys like you make the journey somewhat easier. I need all the help that I can get. I don't have another 50 years that's for sure! George
