beginner breeding pigeons.I have ten pairs of rollers. I noticed that there poop was wet and green, with a little white color in it. have treated them for worms with Ivermax, was told it was the same as Ivermec 3 drops down the throat.
Should I do it one time or repeat it? (not sure.)Poop was still the same, so treated them for cockcittia used sulmet (sulfamethazine sodium 12.5%)1tbl sp per gallon of drinking water for five days and noticed the poop was getting better but still had a lot of green in it. I thought maybe they had canker, one showed a little bit of signs but it is gone now. Went and got some medpet 4-1 powder from Jedds. It says to add Entero plus to it. Is this necessary to give them this treatment after all the other ones I have already given them?

I also bought some organic apple cidar vinegar from the health store any in-put on this product would be extremely
helpful. If there is a better way please let me know.
Thanks for any in-put it will be greatly appreciated.

Do not give them anymore worm meds. About a table spoon of apple cider vinegar per one gallon of water may help (won't harm). What color do you want thier poop to be?

Always keep in mind worm meds is poison. Too much and you harm the birds.

Go to this website "www.chevita.com" and scroll down to the pigeon section. It lists all the common diseases and symptons. I find it very helpful.
Good luck

Mark,

Birds typically have runny droppings after being wormed. My follow up question to you would be, what are you feeding? If there are any pellets in their diet, that could have an impact on the solidity of their droppings as well.

Treat them for Salmonella. The best is to give them amoxycillinum (form of antibiotic) that treats Salmonella, E-coli and respoiratory infections. Administer it one teaspoon per one gallon of water for ten days. Then give them about one tablespoon of regular yougert for one gallon of water for three days. That should clear up the droppings for you and any bacterial infection.

thanks for all the input from everyone. The info has really helped!
Will not give anymore worm meds. till the end of season if needed. went to cheveita site, found it to be very helpful.
Looked up salmonella and sounds like a possibility, it looks like it could be the same as paratyphoid so I guess I will start to give them 4-1 treatment to-morrow for seven days, after treatment will give them plain yogurt and see if that helps. I am pretty sure it will. Was wondering if it is okay to do this while feeding babies?
I feed a mixed grain 16%,does that sound okay to you guys? Thanks for your advice,
Mark

Mark,

Paratyphoid is really a nasty disease. It is caused mostly by mice or damp loft, but mostly mice droppings. If you have them around, you need to get rid of them ASAP.

The bottle for the 4N1 should tell you if you can use this medication while the birds are rearing young, if it doesn’t call Foy's and ask Jerry and he should tell you.

Your feed at 16% should be fine. But make sure it is clean feed. By the way, the yogurt will build the beneficial bacteria in their gut backup again after medications.
