i have a pure white hen that is ten years old she didnt have any eggs last year but to my suprise shes got two this year i thought she was past it. my question is shall i let her rear them or will it see her off she is still very strong and flies great.

I would no longer use her as a breeder; if she no longer flys well I would not be using her as a kit bird either.

Jord, I wouldn't breed from that white hen, unless you are planning for a wedding release!! HEHEHHEHE Mongrel Lofts

I found that the old birds that have gone barren or infertile will fill or laid good eggs in very early season or very late season (breeding). The question I ask myself about these birds is: Am I willing to waste a breeding season with a great breeder on such a bird. If the answer is no, then it is best left unused. If yes, then waste away. I use my old birds that have gone barren or infertile as fosters. In most cases, I would pair them up with a stock material young bird. This pair would be used as fosters and if any good eggs are laid, I would simply just let them raise it. If not, then their eggs are replace by the ones I am planning on fostering off. Hope that White Self Hen is as good as she is... I don't find much control in such a color in my family. Thor
