do all rollers fly high in the sky. I use to keep rollers a bit years ago, and they dont fly that high. My friends use to have some rollers that would fly thousands feet high in the sky. do some roller fly low and high?

Rollers are known to be high flyers. You can control the height by good health and feed management. I prefer my birds to fly at about 300 to 600 feet that way I can closely observe them. The choice is up to the breeders. You will also find them hard to judge in competition if they are up much higher than 800 feet.

You have to remember what the breed is... it is a high flying breed. If that doesn't explain it all, then I don't konw what will.
I think high flying can be one of two things. The first and found in most families is it is genetic. The second is caused by the trainner.
A high flying bird will breed the same. Some guys have worked this gene out of their family. The phase, you breed what you like is not just a saying. Some guys have founded such a family that their birds will not sky out or fly high. Then there are guys out there who like to see their birds high in the sky and have strainned such traits into their family.
I have a high flying family. This is due to change as I pick my own birds out of the sky to stock.
High flying - is something that is in their blood. It is our job to select our ideal birds.
Just my opinion,

Hi everyone ...I am new to this site as of today and i live in Ontario canada , and currently have a small flock of a dozen high flying rollers . They were sold to me as high flying rollers in the ad i read. These birds go up so high some days that they look like finches to the naked eye. I think that the height they fly is also determined by weather conditions and whats going on in the atmosphere etc, winds and whatnot..any feed back on this ?? I like the high flyers , but i agree at times , unless you've got some good binoculars, it's hard to watch your birds perform. I do enjoy the odd days when they only fly at a couple hundred feet , so i can see them drop down.

V.,
I'm curious what family your birds originated from?
I have some experiences with a fancier named (Edited By Moderator) birds. They are prone to just sky out, even as young birds. The first flight as squeekers, they would literly fly like they have been on the wings like a veteran flier. I later was told that this Gentleman favor high flying birds. Some one can correct me if I was told otherwise.
Like any trait, if bred long enough, it will be stainned in.

Thor..Sorry..been awhile sinse i was in here , formatted PC and lost all my favorite pages etc , and had to go searching again to find this site. I do not know who the originator of the strain of high flyers is per say , but i got these birds from a fellow named Ross Saunders, a nearby local breeder. The ad read high flying rollers for sale ...he wasn't kidding...lol Thinned them back so far in the fall , and counting what i lost from them getting out over winter and hawks getting them, i'm down to two breeding pairs. Thank god breeding season is here again..i just set them up again for egg laying.

Paul,
You let the secret out of the bag now. Not only should we be breeding for the Apple, we should also be using the Apple - MAC computer that is. Funny, even tho we know that, we still do otherwise. I am running a IBM myself but know I should be using a MAC to stay virus free.
I guess it is like I know I shouldn't fly on those Blue Skie days but do it any way to just kiss the whole team away.
Dam Hackers and their virus. They are like sky sharks - pin pointing their attacks on the IBM users because it is just easier to create virus for that OS. They need to level the field and start picking on those MAC users.

About high flying, thanks for the update. I guess, the original breeder was a follower of the old high flying breed.
