What if any precuations must a fancier take to prevent any tragedy's in this type of CLIMATE.
Also can the birds be flown or bred during these hot months or do they lock downduring the heat .
Thanks George

George, When it gets really hot I fly e.o.d. and early in the morning as soon as it is light. I think we are in for a hot dry one here in the Texas Panhndle. YITS Kenny

Hey George, it can get really hot here in the Pheoniquera. From June to August I fly the birds early in the morning. I guess it would be like locking your birds up in the winter but here we do it in the summer. The good thing about it is that you can breed year round. Have plenty of water on hand! Do you still have my # if your in the area give me a call.

I don't know how hot, HOT is in PHX or Vegas but in the peaks of summer here... it can be unbearable. For example, I have been to California many of times when the weather is above 110 F. That actually feels refeshing compare to our 80 F with humidity. When it reachs 90 F plus here with humidity in full gear, that can spell death if one is to not continiously drink water. What makes or breaks the weather is the humidity in my mind. In California, when it is above 100 F... you can get relief if you stay under a shaded area. Here, there is no relief with such actions. The air is boiling hot and thrus blows nothing but hot air. I have flown my family of birds in awfully hot temps during the hotest months. They do quite well and even manage some times to stay up for the desired time. This isn't so for other family of rollers as I have seen. Most can't fly more then acouple of minutes under such condition before landing and puking their guts out or grasping their mouths to cool their body. Then again, these same birds can't handle the windy conditions we get here either. While mine do just fine. I believe if your birds were bred solely for that area for acouple of generations they should do just fine. Altho it is a different story if they were relocated to a totally different enviroment. The advice to look for the best birds in your area is a sound advice. Don't you think? I have noticed one thing, if it is too hot, the birds will not turn it on. The best time to view any teams up here is during the Spring. It is filled with cooler over casted days and resembles more of weather back in England where this breed originated from. Minnesota, Thor

My rollers would not do well if it is above 85. We have lot of humidity and that is where the problem is. The air is so dense and hot that they would not want to fly. There was an advice from Rick Mee - if it is above 90 and really hot with humidity make sure to remove water 3 hours before fly. I have tried that and it seems to work during hot months (June, July, August). Thanks, -Rauf
