When combining single squabs into a clutch of two prior to banding, how do you identify or mark them so that when you do band them you can be sure of their parentage?
Thanks, Geo.

Geo I will paint a nail with nail polish or make note such as the beak color or dark nail, light nail, stuff like that. I write everything down and not leave it to memory.

Hey Geo, I agree with Scott, leave nothing to memory! Take notes and keep good records especially if you find yourself combining single egg clutches. ---------------------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Trust me guys, I'm older than both of you, and I leave NOTHING to memory. What memory? Scott, thanks for the idea about the fingernail polish. I've never combined rounds before, but I have several pairs where only one egg hatched. Also have two hens that only laid one egg. I'd like to combine for warmth of the squabs and to get birds on to the next round.
Thanks again, Geo.

Nick, one pair made a mega mansion type nest and one egg got knocked out of the nest bowl. One pair I just checked, and the second egg hatched. The two other pairs only laid one egg, and no, they are not old hens. The one is an '03 and her last two rounds last year she only laid one egg. I've used two of her full sisters, and they lay two eggs each time. The thing I need to watch is that the second an '05 is a niece to the '03 hen. Hope it's not some sort of a wierd hereditary thing. I intend to keep an eye on it.
