In looking back at the roller world when I was young or younger I find that there are better birds now then there ever were. This communication tool that I am setting in front of is probably the key issue in the quality improvement of todays birds. It is all about the vast amount of information available and the easy communications opportunties available between breeders.
The gene pool has always been there, but because of the revolutionary increase in tools we now manage our lofts much better then we ever have. It is mind boggling.
The average loft today would make you a legend of yesterday.

Hey Nick, I think you are right about the communication aspect, regarding bringing roller breeders together to share their insight and experiences.I for one have come a long way in a shorter amont of time due to the computer, with their forums, websites, etc. I'm at a point in my life that I have the time and interest to pursue performance pigeon breeding,so for me its just more available time to participate and enjoy. I agree the bloodlines have always been there and fanciers are once again focussing on the performance aspect of roller breeding and management, where based on some things that I have read,it so seems performance was sidestepped for breeding for type, temperment and the showpen. These are just my observations, maybe theres a veteran fancier that can enlighten me more....:-).....Aloha,Todd

Gee, I would never have gotten to know any of you guys and would still be flying my eight birds in the backyard. I would`ve never gotten to be part of the great color debate of 05. We owe a lot to this technology. YITS Kenny

Hey All, the internet has most certainly changed the way we communicate with each other. It has allowed people who would never have met to get to know each other and speeded up the process of sharing new information and learning.
I spend so much time in front of this thing, my wife will tell me to "step away from the computer" to go do some other things. I am constantly checking email, the news and the posts on the site! LOL
On management; I think proper management of your stock and loft are critical keys to doing better with rollers. Using breeder software, having almost instant answers through the discussion pages and articles positions almost anyone into doing better with rollers if they pay attention. ---------------------- FLY ON! I look forward to the expansion of the roller internationally, so when someone asks if I race them and I tell them "No - they're rollers", they don't look at me blankly. Then when I explain that they're performance pigeons and I do that funny hand thing, trying to make it look like a spinning ball - they don't snigger at me.
