I got a bird that was just blazing fast in the air, 10-20 feet. She looks great and healthy. One day she didn't want to fly and would just go up and land in the tree. She was a great kitter with a super heart before this. After about the 3rd time of landing in the tree I checked her mouth and instead of it being pink or red like the other birds it was all pale. What could it be? She is currently quarantine as I hope it is not serious and infectious.

She could have hit coming in when you didn't see it and bruised herself. She could have a feed deficiency if she hasn't been getting her share of feed. She could have the beginnings of a bacterial infection. She could have canker. She could have a calcium deficiency, and as noted above, could be eggy. Could be any one of a lot of things. Brian.

No, one day she just didn't want to fly anymore and would just land in the trees. I thought that maybe she was sore or had worms so I wormed her and then tried to fly her but she just did one lap around the house and landed in the tree again. This happened one more time and then I checked and the lining of her mouth was all pale and yellow like there was no blood.

She looks healthy and is not light. She gets her fair share and is in real good shape. She just seems like she has no energy to fly and gets tired after one lap around the house. I will try to give her some calcium and antibiotic. If she does not show any sign of getting better then I hate to do it because she is one of my best bird butI'll cull her as I don't want her spreading what she got to my other birds.

If you don't think she is sick then give her a couple weeks off from flying and let her put some weight on. Give her some vitamin supplements too. Now here is the other thing you will have to consider. Some birds are just mentally weak. And often you won't see this weakness until they come into some hard rolling. I've raised and still raise a few from time to time that once the roll comes on, they don't want to fly. Generally they hit something and it just totally screws with their head. They chicken out of the will to fly because they are scared. If the rest period doesn't cure them, they are culled because they will never amount to anything other than a sitter. I'm not saying that is the case with your bird, but be on the look out for it. And if that is the case, by all means don't breed from her, she will pass that weak character gene onto her offspring. Brian.
