Go to this URL for some info on Red Cell. I've used it for years for both pigeons and exhibition bantams. For rollers one capful per gallon. Has all the essential vits, minerals, and added iron (think hemoglobin here; think competition and the need for extra oxygenation of the blood).

Go to the section that covers Effective Horse Supplements (Red Cell is a horse supplement for training or racing horses).

I've used Red Cell and the birds looked unreal...like dam, I've never seen that/those bird(s) go so fast before....wow! Faster, tighter, and more frequent that day. Then a second time....totally different results. They looked like s$!t! Another time they looked like S...L...O...W flying homers! LOL! Who knows? I sure don't!

I've had the same results as you. It appears there is a specific time when it can be the edge the birds need to let it all hang out. I've had it work, as well as had it turn a decent kit into a bunch of active rolling that was so disorganized it was borderline embarrassing. My limited experience tinkering with it leads me to two initial conclusions which surely will change in the future. The first being the best results will come when the birds are near peaking, but not quite there. The second is to give it a few days before the fly rather than just before. Brian.

It is something to be careful with excpecialy with a good team of birds , the first time I used it was on a very good team , never have I seen a kit come even close to what that kit did on that day, but also you could tell that the wheels were close to coming off , the second time I tried it a week later(W/C qaulfier) and the birds were spent and and completly fell apart, it took months for them to get back to normal. I think that if you truely have a good team it's not a good idea as it is just to much stimulation, but on a so-so team I wouldn't hesitate. When I used it I also held the water back the day before to make sure they didn't sky out due to the mineral jack.

Those effects remind me of the 1970s. Do you think that some day, random Red Cell testing of rollers before comps will be necessary?

I've found for the best performance enhancing results, Red Cell was used 4+ weeks between each dose. To close between doses and the birds can be and have been embarassing!

I agree, I used to use Foy's Pigeon Builder vitamins on a daily bases. The birds become very embarrassing and fly like homers with less performance. They tend to sky out and uncontrollable. Once stopped and in a few days they returned to being themselves. I only use it or red cell once every two or three weeks or when I am in the process of building them back up.
Now I tend to give my birds less and less of vitamins and other boosting substances because I want my birds to break down for optimal performance but at the same time keep them healthy. You be surprised on how little the rollers need to stay healthy. Good clean feed, clean water, dry and ventilated loft and rodents free and you will always have healthy birds. If you require strong pigeons, then homers will do…

I used the recommended dosage, which is a table spoon per one gallon of water. I truly believe that vitamins are best to be given to breeders who lack the exercise and sun like kit birds, although they have access to the healthiest feed but other supplements to their feed is desirable. Flyers to me are more like solders and they need to be fit for performance but over fit and extremely strong will lead to undesirable results. This way you can break them down and be able to build them back up to your preference. This is just my opinion only.

I use red cell sprinkled alittle on the feed,a feww globby drops in a small coffee can full.I do this once a month to a month and a half for flyers,I feel its effect is more subtle when put on the feed. When put in the water,I feel it overwelms them, one way or another, but subtle is my first choice, for health...Aloha,Todd
