Tony, I know you have the same cages I do and breed out of them. Others of you may use them as well. I use the feeding trays that come with the cages. When I wasn't breeding I only fed them for a few minutes each day and they didn't have the chance to waste so much feed. Now that I've constantly got feed in front of the breeders, I calculate that about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of feed per week is being wasted and there's got to be a better way. Tony, others, do any of you have suggestions of feed trays or whatever that are more effective at not wasting so much feed but that fit in the space between the breeding cages? I only fill the ones I have about half way to try and avoid so much feed flipping out as they throw it around looking for their favorite seeds. Thanks!
Darin

Hey D, I also use the same stack cages for my individual breeding cages. But for the feeders I use the plastic 1/2 gallon milk jugs. I cut a upside down tear drop hole about half way up the jug. It is enough room for the birds to place there heads in. And they can scratch and sort through the feed. And what they throw around stays inside the jug. Now every week I pour out the bottom of what is left over night and replace with new feed. Put the hole a little further down on the jug won't waste as much. Now you will have to use a S-hook to hold the jug in the corner. So it won't fall over and spill in the trays below.Hope this helps Brian Middaugh

Milk jugs work best for cage breeders. Less waste and clean food and water.

I use the milk jugs also. I feed my breeders nutriblend pellets. Once they get accustomed to eating it, they don't fish around for their favorite grains - so less is wasted.

Hmmmm, 1/2 gallon milk jugs huh? I'll have to get one and see if they fit in between the breeding cages OR Brian, are you talking about putting it right in the main cage with the birds? Right now, with the trays in the middle, I can feed both pairs at the same time. If the milk jug will fit between the two, I can cut one hole on each side and maybe put two jugs in there. That way, all four birds could eat at the same time if they wanted to. In any event, thanks for the idea. I think it will help.

Hey Darin, I actually bought some thin wood sheets that I am going to cut to size and make narrow boxes that will fit in that middle slot, I will cut round holes big enough for the birds to put thier head through but not be able to swish out the pellets or grain.
If it works, I will make some for sale on the site. I just need to get to it.
The milk carton jugs are some good ideas. What about using those 2 liter soda bottles for water feeders, anyone try that before? ---------------------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Hey Brian, sorry for not responding to your email, I haven't even seen it yet with all the spam I have to weed through.
Sometimes emails are sent directly to my delete folder for reasons I don't completely understand. LOL
To answer your question, I do not sell those compartments. Should we be able to add them to our inventory, I will be happy to let everyone know. Thanks for asking about them though, I appreciate it. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria
