I have heard that you can mark tail and/or wing feathers on your birds with a tint or dye. Could someone enlighten me on how to do this and what type tint/dye to use? I would appreciate you sharing this with me.

Some people use the halloween hair spray paint which will wash off and comes in bright colors. Other options include masking tape on the bottom of the tail for dark birds. You can also cut the center tails of the birds until you have several done that way. Once the center feather dries out you can insert a white tail feather from another bird into the shaft of the center tail feather. Most of the time they stay in pretty good. I'll even go so far as to notch the ends of the secondaries on one wing when trying to identify a particular bird. Another thing which is really easy but doesn't get mentioned much is to take a section of tape about three inches long and run it along the keel of the bird before release. This works pretty good to see the tape from a reasonable distance. Good luck.
Brian.

I use Bingo Markers. I find that you can control the markings to what ever design you want.
Dotting marks sure is more attractive then irratic botches of paint.
It becomes an art after you are use to it.
Bingo Markers - cost 1.00-2.00 dollar a color. Seems to last a life time. Gotta love it!

I am the same as Scott. I clip the Tail Feathers. I will cut the corner off one bird...the other corner off another bird...make a V down the Middle or a doupble V...you can also clip the corners of the tail...straight across instead of an angle..I tell you what...my birds have some pretty trick tails...kind of disco. I have tried all the different color markers and paint...the tail clipping seems to work the best..you can see the tail clips from way up!

Doesn't notching feathers create weak feathering?
Has any one noticed a balance change in the birds because of the notches?
All the bling, bling on the leg (plastic coated leg bands) is all ready throwing the birds off center - add in notches and that is over kill don't you think.
Oh, I double band all my fliers. I don't like bingo markers but it still does the job.
