This pair has only one squeaker that's 13 days old, (Thanks Paul, this one squeaks like crazy). I go out to feed the birds tonight and notice an egg in the nest bowl next to the squeaker. I wasn't sure what to do so I put a second nest bowl in the cage and placed the egg in it. Is it okay to allow this pair eggs with a 13-day old squeaker in the same cage? Should I worry about them abandoning one or the other? Should I destroy the eggs? The hen already seems more than happy to take care of the egg. Thanks!

If I get eggs come to soon I put them under someone esle. If it is a experience breeding pair they can manage 2 families. But you have to watch and see what happens.

Darin,

The parents will naturally stop feeding the present youngsters just before it is time for the eggs to hatch because they will start producing pigeon milk for the new babies. The present babies will be about a month old. You can try to wean them at this age. If they don't eat you might have to hand feed them for a few days. It's not as bad as it sounds. Make sure you candle the eggs at about six or seven days. If they are not fertile, throw them out at about 10 days to prevent the parents from starting the pigeon milk cycle a little later. Then they should feed out the present babies. It would be a shame to waste fertile eggs.

The eggs are coming a bit quick. The parents will feed the youngster just fine. The risk is that one night he'll freeze to death in the nest while the mother is incubating the eggs. Either toss the eggs or be prepared to bring the baby in the house each night if the temps are low.
