Is diarrhea a common thing for the parents to have who are feeding young? I'm feeding the parents pigeon mix which is the same thing I've always feed them but I haven't seen so much brown water coming out of them as I have the last week or so. They have food and water present all the time. The only difference between a few weeks ago when stools looked fine and now is that they are feeding babies.

It usually has to do with the large consumption of water, especially from about when the babies are 7-20 days old. Most of my pigeon pairs will, to some degree, have a mushy, soft type of dropping when feeding. If the babies and parents appear healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. It would be a good idea to add some vitamins and electrolytes to the water, especially for those parents that are consuming large quantities of water. Some birds just are water hounds when feeding while others don't seem to use up as much. Brian.

Brian,
I have noticed that they seem to be consuming twice as much water. In fact, I'm filling the water twice a day to keep up with them.

Hey Darin, try using a larger water feeder if you can. Also, like Brian said, if they look healthy and eat and drink okay, just give them vitamins and electrolytes.
If the parents are looking worn out, sunken and glassy eyed, consider worming them. I have used Wazine which works really fast and seen dead worms in the stools the next day.
Also, breeders on pellets will often have running droppings. Just food (ugh!) for thought. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Tony, you breed in the same cages I do, what are you providing water in and are you sticking it in between the cages in the slot or do you provide something for each cage?

From time to time my birds do same when feed ONLY pellets (breeding birds). They intake more water. If you mix pellets with grains that thing probably will go away. I do not mix grain to pellets because of waste they do. They still waste even if I give pellets but less as they have no choice there.

Check thier wieght on gram scale. Also feel thier keel or breast. Is it plump or thin? U shaped or V shaped? Is it a wet poop or shooting out the back end?
