I have a several kit boxes full of them. These whites are out of grizzles mostly from stock improted from Heine Bijker in Holland. The whites you have seen may not have impressed you but mine would I'm Sure! It's hard to make broad statements about colors and how they perform. It has more to do with family traits.

Yes , Jack Meyers had a line out of his Smiths , some were very clean and fast , pure white , typy. I have seen every color within the breed that can hang with the best with the exception of yellow , I've seen plenty with roll but never one that is top self or even close to it.

I was down collecting some birds from Dave Moseley at the end of last year. He has a very close family which all originated from 2 pairs. Every few years they throw a pure yellow. None of the have ever amounted to anything. It seems very interesting to me that is the way with such a close family.

George. I have right now in my posession a loaner hen that is pure white. I also have one of my own hens that is almost pure. She has one splat right on her forehead, about the size of a little fingernail. I have a stork maked grizle cock who isn`t too heavy. I could prolly get some white ones in a gen or two. I heard if you pull the feathers of a predominantly white bird that aren`t white they would come back in white. BRIAN Mc. I think you said it. help me out here.

Hey George, Are you talking about actual white birds or lavender grizzles that appear white?

Well Kenny, that is a whole separate topic, but in some cases with tiger grizzle, primarily recessive reds, etc, you can pluck out a grizzled feather and most of the time it will come back in white. I've never seen a solid white (self) roller in the air. I've seen homozygous ash red grizzle mimics that were nearly white perform well. Brian.

All the Whites I see are just Grizzles. Don't know but White ticks mated to Red Bars will throw alot of White selves in my family. Red Grizzle Bars mated to another Red Grizzle will also produce White selves. All the White selves I have seen or flown are darn good high velocity Rollers. The problem is the control. Most will be 30-40 footers. If flown long enough, these suckers usually will make a mistake that is fatal due to the velocity they pack. I think Whites can roll just as good as any other colors that I am flying. The ones I see are just on the HOT side and will not live to see another day if they make any mistakes. My Whites are simply just Grizzles. All my whites will be pearl eyed for some reason. Any body know why? Thor

Time to time I get pure white rollers off Mee family. They roll and kit like any other color rollers.

George, I was talking about PURE whites or white selves. Mine usually come from Tick matings or Red Grizzles. Yes, I get white ticks and I know the differences. My white ticks would wipe any white selves hands down in quality and stability. Altho, I know my white selves are merely just grizzles. If you are talking about the Whites found in the Homer breed, then I can't help you. I don't think any of my pure whites can breed pure whites, then again, non has made the grade as they have all killed themselves. Many times it is the fault of the trainner. Thor

There is a white self cock bird for sale on the NBRC convention website Raised by Dave Szabatura that has all the goods, great in the air and in the breeding pen. As to yellows, I had a yellow self that was taken by a coopers this spring that was 4 years old and the best bird in the air in my loft. He was the only yellow I`ve ever had so I don`t know about the other peoples yellows, but this one was great. YITS Jim

I have had them but the hawks tend to like them. They stick out like a sore thumb against the ground and trees. Hawks pick them off. Just My Two Cents!! C.J.

CJ, hawks pick off anything that moves. For some reason I did not lose any of my whites to them. Hawks have no preference and don't discriminate.

hi all
I have a pure white cock in my stock loft out of a tar splash cock and a tort hen, he is a outstanding bird in the air and he breeds good young, but he has never bred pure whites. even to a pure white hen! hes bred silver, silver balds and even black balds. i have 3 pure whites in my young bird kit this year out of his father to a different hen. if they are 1/2 as good as he is i will be over the moon!!!!!!!!!
yours in sport and friendship

J Star I agree that hawks don't have a preference but when the kit scatters they are like any predator they will take the weakest or the easiest to see. In this case from above a white bird on a grassy field or trees is way easier to pick out then a dark bird. I talk to a lot of guys who won't race white homers for just this reason. They lose large percentages during a race. Nothing against white rollers it just happens. If it doesn't happen to you congrats you are lucky. Just My Two Cents!! C.J.

Jay, I've been fortunate so far in only having had one hawk attack. On this occasion, all my birds were sitting on the loft top, having just landed and I wasn't quite finished cleaning out. I walked out of the loft and saw a hawk gripping one of my rollers on the ground. It had swooped down, grabbed one and they'd both fallen to the ground. By clapping my hands the hawk let go and the bird was unharmed. The point is, I only had one white bird and that's the one the hawk went for. Coincidence?

I lost many birds to hawks and I believe birds' color do not play any role. Hawks take the weakest or tied birds regardless of color. Just my 2 cents.

Theres no doubt in my mind that whites, light colored or grizzled rollers are at a disadvantage when a predator comes swooping in.I am one of the few here in Hawaii that get wacked, mostly due to the large kits I fly and my location between the mountains and the ocean.4 out of 5 times its the light colored birds,if they had their choice, but of course other colors get wacked too.Aloha,Todd
