Hi all
has any one seen birmingham rollers with crests on the back of the head?? is it something to do with to close pairing? does it affect the performance of the bird?
yours in sport and friendship

I personally have not seen one. Crests and peaks are a recessive gene. If it is in birds you start with, over time and through inbreeding this recessive gene can become homozygous and become expressed. Brian.

Yes I have seen them pop up in a few coops. Once again if you are breeding for anything other than the roll they are no longer Birmingham Rollers. They then become whatever or crested rollers. Number one goal baby is the roll. Just My Two Cents!! C.J.

I personally like crested and muffed pigeons since I was a kid. If crested rollers appear in my loft and they are good to be in the kit box or to breed then I will keep them. If not, I properly would hold to it a bit longer before I cull it in the hope it would improve but in the end would be culled if no improvement within a year. I have muffed birds already in my loft and I don’t breed specifically for it, it just appears now and then and I am fine with it.

Hi Stan...Ive viewed your website , and your birds and i am quite impressed with the birds you have bred over the yrs. Ive sent you an e-mail concerning weather you sell birds to local breeders or not. I currently only have a handful of rollers , half a dozen to be exact, and they aren't very good. I would love to get a few rollers from you if your willing to sell any. I am posting this here in case my e-mail to you maybe went astray. I can be reached at e-mail wilskin@hotmail.com I am in Oshawa Ontario. I hope to hear from you soon either way.
Sincerely Greg Wilson
