Milo is sorghum, like kafir. Originally, all milo was lite coloured. It was used for feed for animals. But the birds were eating so much of it in the field that the crop size was reduced. Then someone found that by breeding darker red milo the birds didnt like it as much and less was wasted on the birds. So they started planting more red milo. It has more tannin which is acidic to the taste for the birds so they don't like it as much. Lite to medium milo is best. They will still eat the dark red milo but they dont like it as well. Its like austrian peas they like more than white peas.
