I've built new facilities for the chickens and moved them out back so I turned the old one into our Pigeon Loft. My question is... there's two 8 X 10 X 6 tall outside runs side by side off of the loft... it would be real easy to build kit boxes in the outter corner away from the loft. My thoughts are that during training, lockdown, high wind and so forth I could let them into the " sun room ". I was told tho, that it would mess the birds up as far as Kitting goes. Do y'all think it would?

These would ultimatly be used to seperate the hens from the cocks, but for now it would be a kit box... till I can get to the final kit boxes........... I need to get busy tho cause I have 20 YB's of various ages, from just hatched to ready ta go. Thanks,
Mark

I think its a good idea , plus you can keep them healthier.
I'm not a fan of small dark kitboxes 24-7 at all ,but I will darken them some what setting up for a fly as that is the time to get down to business ,at all other times they get plenty of light and fresh air.
I like healthy birds, I'm just funny that way.

Thanks Scott,
It going to be easy to put the Kit Boxes in the sun rooms the way I built them. They are going to be a little big ( 4 X 3 X 4 ) but eventually they'll be for the breeders.

I am glad the questions been asked. I too have built an aviary for the kit box. My kit box is 4x8 divided in the middle, 4ft tall with wire floor. The aviary is 3 ft wide 6ft long and 6 ft tall, mounted on casters to enable me to move from one end of the kit box to the other. Our weather here in Idaho is unpredictable to say the least.(we had two inches of new snow this morning)A lock down is not uncommon for days at a time. The birds really enjoy the outside even if they are not flying free. I have been told that dark kit boxes are the best and some say they prefer light. Personally, I enjoy the ability to be able to watch my birds even in the aviary, it give me the oportunity to see if there are any problems they may be having. My breeding loft is 12x24 with 4 sections. Funny thing is, I have no breeders as of yet, soon... very soon.

You can kinda see the pen in the middle. This is my flyer setup. When I can`t fly or it is bath time I let em in the pen for an hour or so. There are certain things a pigeon can only get from direct sunlight.

The unfinished box is all finished now and has a matching paint job.

This is a link to the sun rooms I'm asking about, you can see by the pic that it'll be easy to add to the corners.
