Ok--I had two Incidences that happened today that made me think--can they smell my birds?Incidence#1-Driving home I saw some vultures and a redtail going back and forth--fighting over some tasty carrion in a field. I didnt think much about it other than(things must be getting slim for the redtail) I have seen this before. Then later I was trimming some branches off some pine trees--so when my birds fly I wont have as many obstructions.I sat down for A break and here comes this cooper flying east to west on a straight line (fast)--as soon as he passed my new kitbox at about 100 ft. up he did a--WOA BABY -slam on the skidders and did about a 360 and a half directly over my kitbox and flew away. this got me to thinking.#1-my birds have not flown yet-they wont be ready for another week or so--Their are no other roller guys for at least a 30 min. drive.-only race guys. That cooper knew what he was looking at! or could it be smelled?--like vultures? I know they find there food by up drafts and zero in by smell until they have a visual I.D.--this cooper actually flew past the kitbox aprox.50 yards and did a more than obvious big time U turn. Or was it he has seen those little white square boxes before?--Remember I havent flown any birds yet.It wont really change anything but it was(at least to me)Interesting.Any thoughts? Fr.mike

Hawks eye sight is amazing. Something else on the ground like a mouse could even have caught his attention. Hope he doesn't hang around. C.J.

CJ--where the kitboxes are is mowed lawn-and its really cold--dont even catch many mice in the loft this time of year --the only thing I can think that might have caught his eye would be a feather from the pigeon crap pile that I have inthe yard Fr.mike

Fr.mike, another possibility-perhaps they can hear your birds. More times than I care to recall, I have seen Coopers hawks sitting on the roof of a loft cocking their heads from side to side as if they were listening to the pigeons. These are the dirty buggers that will go through the bobs if the traps are left open. Just a thought. ?Geo.
