I placed my top cock and hen together over two weeks ago and there still is no sign of mating. They both have mated with lesser quality birds but not with each other. Any ideas? And yes I am sure they are a cock and hen. I have never had this issue before. Thanks C.J.

I had the same problem last year - the cock and hen would mate with other birds, but when I put them together as my ideal mating, the cock would make advances, got no response and gave up. But right now, they're sitting on eggs. What I did was first separate them from their previous mates for a while, then I put them together on their own in an empty section of the loft. It took very little time for them to pair up.

That is the way to go. Seperate and give alittle greiving time. Then pair them up. Don't let them see other birds. After there mate and ready to go back to loft. Have thier old mates pair up and sitting or gone.

CJ Pull the hen out and leave the cockbird in the box.Lock him down for a couple of days. Put the hen in a dark calm spot for a day or two. I have used a laundry basket turned upside down with a towel over it,and news paper under it in a closet. When you re introduce the hen he will drive her to the box and there should be eggs 10 days later. I am gonna run a poly after the WC. I have been studying different methods. Tried a couple when I paired this winter. This will work. v99

Now, Paul - a pack of smokes for afterwards? Tut, tut. Let's not forget the youngsters we must not corrupt on this forum. Surely you meant a cup of herbal tea.

Shaun, Smart ass remarks are unnecessary....I ignored you the first time but not the second...move on.
TU,
Break them up and mate them to different mates to find out which bird has the problem.

Hey thanks for all of the advice. There isn't an issue with either of the birds as far as breeding to others. They both have mated to other birds the only problem has been when ever I try to get these two together. I want this pairing because they are the two best birds in my loft. C.J.

We hit the jack pot yesterday. They finally laid their first egg. I guess she just needed time to grieve. I already have the fosters ready for the egg. C.J.
