Hi guys!I've just started with Rollers the last couple of months, and I have 3 pairs of '05 birds.Have one 5 day old chick from one pair that insisted on nesting under the nest boxes and one egg got booted out of the nest. The other 2 pair have been building nests for 5 or 6 weeks but not laying eggs.Do you think they are slow because they are young birds?I also have some show homers which are older birds and started laying as soon as they settled into the loft.Have 4 squeakers from them 3 1/2 and 2 1/2 weeks old. When should they be able to fly??
Cheers,
Kelly

I have 4 pairs of Show Homers with one extra hen, and 3 pairs of Birminghams in a 4X8 loft I picked the design up from Redrose lofts .com.There are 8 nestboxes and they all seem to be mated in pairs tho they fly free in the loft.I have a nice kitbox ready for when I have young rollers and am going to build another youngbird loft for my homers. The climate here is mild as we live on the west coast of Canada.Only one snowfall this year down by sea level.
Thanks,
Kelly

Hi there, I am seeing 7 pairs and 8 nestboxes. Need to add min. 6 more boxes. Each pair should have 2 boxes. If someone is a greedy property owner. Take that one out.

O.K.,I guess I'll remove some perches and add some more nestboxes. There are two nests hidden under the nestboxes, should have realized I didn't have enough boxes, tho the two pairs of rollers that haven't laid any eggs have perfect nests built from pine needles they've been sitting in and I've seen them mating but no action. They are '05 birds so maybe I should just be patient.
Thanks,
Kelly.

Waiting is the way to go? They could be late 05. If born in Dec. They would only be 3 months. Got 6 mos or over before they might breed.. And some boys take awhile to learn thier business.
