Curious,
I have ten pairs of breeders in my breeding loft. I usual put straw on the floor prior to mating and let the pairs build there own nest. However, i noticed that some pairs only put a small amount(if any) of straw in the nesting bowl. However, others seem to fill the bowl to capacity. Then I have this one pair that found a nesting spot on the top shelve of the nesting boxes. This pair has a nest about the size of a "eagle nest". When the cock or hen are setting, all you can see is the top of the heads.

Never paid much attention to this before. However, i was curious if anyone notice any type of relationship between nest builders and the personality of a particular bird? Or am I looking for something that is not there??

That is just how it is bro. Some breeders use a nest bowl pad to help out the chicks that have lazy parents. I have a cockbird that will go into another nestbox and steal thier stuff for his own nest. I just scatter some pine needles into the boxes every few days. They usually get the hint.

I think that Tony is going to start selling Pine needles at a very good price...to the people who do not have a lot of pine needles around. Ask Tony about it.

Pine needles are by far..one of the best for nests.

I have been using pine needles all my life for my birds. I have never seen a tick in the nest box or any other critter for that matter. It is real easy for the birds to work with and does not hold moisture like wheat straw does. I have also heard good things about tobacco stems. Pine needles (in the South East U.S.) are abundant and easy to collect.
