I have a hold-over kit from last year consisting of 22 birds. A friend who can no longer keep birds gave me 4 youngster from last year. These birds are of the same family of birds as mine. However, these bird were never flown at all. They are 4 great looking birds.Would i be making a mistake by adding these birds to my kit? Because of the hawks, i have not starting flying the kit yet this year. My first round for this year are just starting to hatch out. SJP

Since they never flown before, try to fly them separately first and see if they willing to fly (give them a week time minimum). If they start flying and like to stay in the air then there is no problem adding them to your kit. If they do not want to fly then I would not recommend them adding to kit because they will disturb your working kit and make them come down early and start adding bad habits to good working birds/kit.

How old are they? Are the fully molted? I've never had any luck trying to get non-flown older young birds to cooperate. You can try it a few times, but like Sid says, if they don't show some signs within a few times of at least being willing to cooperate, forget it. I'd just mate them up and let them breed a few rounds and fly out those young. That is really when you will find out if they were good or not. Brian.
