Is there any one on here who is a believer in the power of the eye? Take for example eye sign or off centered pupil or bright multi colored eyes or etc. What like you hear your thoughts? Thor

I believe it is good to learn as much as you can about eye "expression" and how it correlates with character. I don't believe anyone can look at a roller's eye and tell you if it will be a great roller. But you can tell by the expression and pupil setting if some will be hot or potential roll downs, which goes back to character. Color, circle of correlation and all that flecking, metallic mumbo-jumbo I don't believe will tell you anything about the bird's performance potential. I have yet to see a bird with an offset, oval pupil be stiff. They always seem to be on the hot/roll down side. The rest is expression, a beam of intelligence (or lack thereof) which gives you some idea of the mental strength and vigor of health they bird will possess. Brian.

This comes up often. In the eyes I look for clearity, the brightness of good health, and the sparkle of intelligence. I don't believe you can depict performance and I don't believe even the racing breeders can either. A lot of mumbo-jumbo like BMC states as far as I am concerned.
Just my 50 cent worth.

HiGuys; The only thing that I can see in a pigeons eye is a rolldown. Most of them have the pupil way off pointing to the beak.Other than that, there is no eyesign. The only guys that can see anything in the eyes, are trying to make you think they know more than you do. ---------- STARFIRE Stan Arnold

Brian, That is an interesting note! Thanks for the input. Would like to hear anything else you have observed.
Stan, I have a hen on loan this year that has one pupil to your description. She is suppose to be a hot bird in the air. I like her alot. Are you telling me she is a roll down? Thor

Mount Airy Lofts,
I have a bird that rolls 70 feet with the kind of Stan is describing and she has never rolled down and neither have any of her young. She is a 2001 bird, very fast, very deep and very controlled.

What Stan described is 90% true. In some cases it is not.

I still believe that the eyes gives no indication on how well they will perform or how poorly they will perform. The eyes are just a good resource to check for health problems.
But, as Stan says it varies from family to family.

I don't believe the eyes can tell you the rolling quality of the bird. With that said I have found what Stan said to be pretty acurate with families I've had. I like a bird whose eye expression says that it is calm, alert and intelligent. I've had birds whose eyes told me they were slow and lazy and sure enough they were.
