This is the second year that i have tried to fly "late hatches", i give up. We all have our "click pairs" that we try to get the most younsters out of. However, i am convinced by know that late hatches or birds that have nvever been flown will never amount to anything. I was given birds from a friend who has birds from a well known breeder (late hatches), fall of 2005. I told him that i would try to fly the birds out (spring 2006) and see what they could do. I tried to fly these birds this spring and they do not want to fly with the rest of the kit. This kit consist of 2005 bird. The same age as the late hatches. These birds look "great"., nice body, nice look, nice feather. Howoever, i give up. I am convinced that never breed late hatches that never are trained to fly with the kit. These birds will never amount to anything.All they do is screw up the kit. I just pulled out 8 birds that have never flown, all look great. However, all have faults. Land on the house, telephone wire, tree etc.

Just remember that the late hatches will act like squeekers the first time you fly them if you never have. DO NOT fly them with you good team for any reason...it will only mess up your good team. It just takes time. You have to feed them less and get them back into shape...it just take time. I agree that it is hard to do when they have been locked down and never flown. It can be done..I have done it...it just takes a little time and patience. It took me about two week of really cutting the feed back and flying them twice a day...or attempting to fly them..LOL!! Once they were in the air they started working and getting better. The ones that just can't do it..I culled...and worked with the birds that were doing it...Now if you have birds already...I myself would not waste my time...if you do not have birds and this is all you got...then you do have the time...Just keep them in the air...throw stuff at them...get them to only land on the kit box..just remember ...baby steps...2 minutes of fly time...then 4 minutes...and sooner or later they will start flying. Try taking them from the kit box and letting them go in your frot yard..so they have to fly a little to get back home. It sucks...but it all depends on if...that is all you have to fly...just my thoughts and experience.

There is nothing wrong with late hatches but you need to keep in my they are just that, LATE. Iagree with fhtfire keep them seperate from the earlier birds. TThey will come along. I have hatched some excellent birds from late hatches.

Hi SJP;
You say these birds are from a good family.If you try to fly them you will be very dissapointed.They will not amount to much. If they are from a good family you should breed from them and fly out the young.If they are a good family you will get good young from them -the blood is there.Keep the pairs that give you good young ones and dispose of the rest---------
