O.K. I am new this so please forgive me. How do you go about using a cock on more than one hen? Plus won't this slow down production? Thanks Mike

In most cases a cockbird will mate two hens if left alone in a cage. I have one that sits both nests even. If you want to tighten your gene pool and improve the performance of your familiy,it is better for them to be related.
As for production, run a foster pair on each hen and you can feasibly run 8 eggs from the same cockbird in 3 weeks. If you have one cockbird in the foster pen and two hens you could run four hens from two cockbirds, and breed 24 chicks in four months from 6 breeders and all would be related. Just takes a bit of planning.Keep both hens on the same cycle. They`ll lay within a day or two of each other. Next season put your best two cockbirds in with 4 hens and just let em breed. This time use two fosters for each hen. Quadruple your production

Vel thanks for the input. I find this very interesting. Do you ever run in to the issue of one hen kicking the garbage out of the other. Or will they co exist. I know if I tried this with my wife LOL she would either kill me or the other women. Next should I provide the cocl bird with a constant supply of viagara and smokes LOL. C.J.M. (Mike)

Not unless the cock of an old age. Otherwise, he will be grateful to you for the supply of hens.

Mike, I asked very similar questions here a few months ago and received some very educated responses to the whole polygamy thing. I'd been reading Kowalski's "True Spinning Rollers II" and he had covered the subject in the book. I wondered whether anyone had given it a go with any degree of success. You might wish to take a look at what was posted here. If I recall, my question from a few months ago, had 'true polygamy' in the title.

Sean, I fly in the finals on 4/30 around 7:30am. By noon of the same day I will have re-paired and generally disrupted the breeders. The only kink I have is one pair fostering, in ten days the chicks will be 17 days old and the hen almost ready to breed again. Her mate is gonna be the poly cock on two other hens. I hope the timing will work out. I have two other pairs on woodies.Fostering the last pair will be close to the 21 day limit for woodies.I have one pair of fosters per pair. Two hens on one cockbird all I did was put them in the same pen. Easy enough,Dad took care of business and I had two fertile nests. He sat both nests, and it kept his butt out of trouble. I am wanna try three but I think I will go with 2 on 4. I have just the two cocks to go with these hens. If one pair wasn`t in need of a breakup I would just let em mate however. yits v99
