Hello, everyone. I'm new here and there. Met and talk with few people here. Visit few people lofts and it's great to see how created they were. But my question is? What is this? I have some rollers but few were different. Some of my pair are clean leg, but produced feather footer. Some were heavy, medium and less feather footer. I come to a conclusion that maybe they were mix with tumbler. They fly normal just like a reg. roller. What is the outcome on these guys. I mean i haven't seen them in other people loft or on W/C and etc. But any answer is appreciated!
Thanks, lil_jess

Grouse legs, or feathers on the feet is a characteristic that has been in rollers for just about as long as there have been rollers. It is a recessive gene which is why two birds with clean legs can produce one that has grouse muffs. Sometimes you will mate one with grouse to one with clean and never produce a grouse leg bird at all. It is just a cosmetic feature that has no bearing what so ever on their performance. If you don't mind them having grouse legs, then I wouldn't worry about it. If you don't like them, then you can just elect to not breed from any with grouse legs, as well as any parents which produce them. This later choice I feel might hurt your chances of producing quality spinners as you are culling for a physical cosmetic feature instead of a mental/performance one. Brian.

Actually i kind of like the way they looks. It just give them a style looks, almost as a show birds. But i was just concerning that why's there less percentage that few people will keep this kinds of birds and more percentage will not keep it. Plus i haven't even seen them or heard of them fly in competition, and etc.
Thanks, lil_jess

They are in lots of kits, some people just don't talk about them. Some people don't like them so they won't talk about them, unless to express that they don't like them.
