All of us often talk about "character" of a bird as a determining mark. I also look for the "character" in a bird before I stock it....its gotta have it.

I find that even my best spinning bird may lack this "character" and I do not stock it. I was asked to define what I ment when I used the the term "character" and I stumbled around with it and never did clarify it to my liking and understanding.

Can anyone put a difinition to "character" when it comes to describing the bird that has got it?

Hey Nick, to me, a roller showing good character is one that demonstrates certain quantifiable and intangible traits such as a strong desire and ability to fly and roll properly, a look of self-awareness and intelligence, strength and proper type in body and mind, an animal spirit that says it is a fine specimen of the breed.

It is not only in the "look" but in the actions from the time it hits the kitbox on into its adult life in the kitbox.

Also let me add that the bird is tame and not so strung out. It traps on time and exhibit a good attitude, during feeding, breeding or socializing in the kit box. It listens to my commands and not afraid of me. Vary aware of its surrounding and exhibit intelligence. Look at it this way, if I was a pigeon, I would like to make friends with it because of its attitude and extraordinary character. How is that Nick?
