What is the best age of a squeek, to band them, so the band goes on reasonably easy, and also has less chance of falling off in the nest? Thanks in advance.I'm sure this subject has been discussed on another page , but i just thought i would try again. I know sometimes if you wait too long , you can be sol in trying to get the bands on if they get too big. Thanks again.

For breeders of small size, band the youngsters at 10 days. For breeders of mid to large size, band the youngsters at 7 days.

I find anything later than that and you are using the spit method. LOL

Put them on when they fit. Forget about "days". Try it a few times and you'll know when they will stay on. If you miss one, just use a little vaseline and it will slip right on.

I also go by the size of the bird, so it could be anything from 5 to 10 days, but the average for mine is 6 or 7.

Right now I have a large foster bird, that has shoved large amounts of food down the squabs' necks. They grew very quickly, so needed banding at 5 days.
