I'm a REAL beginner here. I have a Foy's and a Siegel's catalog. What trap door should I order? And, when I get one and get someone to install it...HOW DO I TRAIN MY BIRDS TO USE IT??????

Chris-look in your Foys cat. and buy a couple of books on rollers-also read past posts on this site.As far as traps go--most the lofts (kitboxs) I have seen use the reg. bob traps.I just put my birds in the kitbox(That is squeakers--not breeders) and get them used to the new environment -then I put them in A wire cage on top the kitbox and get them used to that--both places for a couple of days each--then I open cage in front of the bobs(make sure they are real hungry)--when they get the idea to go from the box threw the bobs a couple of days in a row I just take them out set them on the top of the kitbox and walk away.I just leave them alone. One time I put a very few seeds on the landing board.that way they get theIdea to come off the top of the kitbox to the landing board.(Remember they need to be on the hungry side to motvate them)After they do that a few times you are good to go.It will be easier once you have some birds already trap trained. You know Monkey see monkey do.Hope this helps. There are other ways to do this but this works for me.Some use a cage that the birds can fly from the roof to the trap door and back and tie up a few of the bobs to let the birds go back and forth for a few days and each day let down a couple of bobs each day until they are going in.Then they take the cage away.Someone may have a better system Its just what I have done and what I have seen.

Thanks for answering my ? Mike...I HAVE SO MUCH TO LEARN. So, what's a "kitbox"? I bought my birds at an auction. They were in tiny tiny wire cages. I bought them a new loft - it's about 4x5'. That's all I have. So, again, which trap door do you reccomend and what is a kitbox?

Hey Chris G--A kitbox is a seperate flying box than the one you have.(Is the loft you have a walk in?) look on past posts for some pics of kitboxes.OR MAYBE SOME GUYS WOULD POST SOME PICS OF THERE GREAT KITBOXES)As far as traps go on page 65 item.0572 Im sure would work.If you have some carpentry skills I would just buy the bobs on page62 item#lo12-9.However I would order some books right away.they will answer some of your basic Questions in one night. You will probly spend more on the books than the rollers you bought at auction.Dont get to far ahead before you do some more research.Usually you should get the lofts all straight and then get your birds. One thing you might find out I am afraid is that just because somebody called some birds at an auction Rollers doesnt mean they are,or they might be show rollers--in that case you would have to punt them like a football to get them to roll or even fly.(I am not trying to discourage you--Its great to start and lots of fun)-Just dont want you to get discouraged later.Do you know who sold these birds? One thing I have learned Is you usually get what you pay for.I would also look up the NBRC web site--look under members list and find someone near you and see if they can help you.I would defintly show them your birds even if you had to take them to them to give you there opinion. If he is an experinced breeder and flyer and he says they are junk--write them off as a downpayment on your education in rollers and then educate yourself some more. You bought those rollers for a reason!RIGHT?-you were intrigued-RIGHT? well keep going-just make sure you are not wasting your time with junk.
If they are not junk-GREAT-also I would recomend joining NBRC right away-you can look in the NBRC bulletin and find flyers close to you. hope this helps.

This is a kitbox with a drop trap. Nothing on the other side of the door for the bird to grip so he can`t get thru. Work em hungry. Put the feeder down with a small amount of seed.Poke em thru the trap a few times. Let em get a couple of bites of seed then poke em thru again. Every day for a week and they should be getting it by then.
